Talking Stephen King goes off on the media.

Not that I agree with his specific issues (hardly suprising), but very entertaining.

meh...more warmed-over waterboarding apologetics.

He was denouncing them.
But *mainly* he was focussing on our media's pursuit of the trivial.

It does have that feel of "they're doing worse things" to it.

But that doesnt make his two points less valid ed. To dismiss them out of hand does them a disservice.

MSM DOES focus alot on trivial things, rather than more important items, abroad or otherwise. Now wether thats their fault or the consumers hold a bit of blame is up for debate.

AND, the fact that worse things go on.....and where is the outrage from the same groups that denounced waterboarding and 'tatamount to torture'? They are awfully silent on many other things....

carm: you're right, i was dismissing it out of hand, but the writer does spend a whole buttload of time talking about waterboarding and "they do it too", and let's face it, when you compare the american government's treatment of prisoners--excuse me, "enemy combatants" or whatever the appropriate bush-speak is for 'em to the chinese government's treatment of prisoners, you've clearly gone to a place beyond space, time and logic in some measure.

however: yes, i agree that the media's obsession w/ gushing about every stupid damned thing about the trinity of triviality is stupid.

Oh I agree the author is his own worst enemy in the article. Not King, not MSM.

The King slant is odd at the least. So what if he invents things for his book. Who cares about his opinion.UNless it falls back to the idea of MSM ob\ession with trivial or celebrity opinions having some weight. Their just as idiotic as folks you dont know.

Again...I agree that it has the "they do it too" quality to it. However, the silence of folks about the others, and the loudness of their criticisms of us does speak for itself. *shrug*

king is definitey a weirdo. seriously: waterboard a member of the first family? why not just say bush, or cheney? i don't like waterboarding either, but c'mon, focus on the issue, not the person. targeting a member of the first family like this was just stupid.

you ask about the outrage, but remember that part of why waterboarding is a big issue is that it's us doing it. not a repressive, totalitarian regime whose dominance is noted for its lack of regard for the care of its citizens.

sorry, my thoughts are a tad jumbled today.

They are making The Mist into a movie?
That story is one of the very few things I ever wrote fanfic after!

Cool.

Anyone that knows anything about King already knows he's a weirdo. Thats nothing new.

As for waterboarding....*shrug* you're talking to the wrong person about it. Sometimes you have to get your hands dirty. Teh difference is knowing when, and when not to. I'm not really outraged.
