Law Enforcement in Urban Fantasy

This is sort of a general urban fantasy thread but it relates to Greywalker so hopefully no one minds. Most books that fall under urban fantasy seem to deal directly with law enforcement to varying some varying degree and that common thread interests me.

They are all painted with very different brushes though and I'm also interested in that.

What I'm getting at is asking Mrs. Richardson what sort of research she does in preparation for dealing with that aspect of her stories and how much is purely fictional?

Something like this http://slangdesign.com/rppr/2006/09/...aw-and-orcdom/ perhaps? ;)

fast forward past the alleged attempt to sing the Law & Order theme (about 2:03 on the timer).
