View Full Version : Fast Healing

What's the easiest way using some combination of race, class, and/or PrC to get Fast Healing? I don't wanna go too far off the beaten path in terms of race, class, or PrC. By which I mean core rules are standard, the complete books are a little to the side, setting books (we're in Faerun) are standard in this case, and the rest of the splat books start edging off into the rough, so to speak.

The Nature's Warrior PrC from Complete Warrior is probably the quickest way I know of, being a PrC you can reach at 6th lvl, but it requires being a druid and has lots of skill requirements. I'd like something that a barbarian could get into. The Warshaper from CW gives it to you at 4th lvl, which means you'd hafta be 8th lvl at the earliest to get it. But then I'm not sure what race would dovetail into that. Are there any standard races that qualify for that PrC with no lvl adjustment that are native to Forgotten Realms?

Or are there other PrC's that can help me out with this that I'm leaving out?

Feral template

Depending on how inclusive "races" is, I'd bet that the Troll gets fast healing before ECL 9, though I don't have my copy of Savage Species on hand to check this.

Otherwise, Warshaper is probably the way I'd do it.

Oh, is that true? I had no idea.

Yeah, but the Feral template is so horribly broken I'd be embarrased to ask a DM if I could use it.

For a base race it's not bad. Applied to an Ogre or Centaur it's just wrong. For a base race you get 6 nat armor, pounce, and a +4 to str and con and fast healing 2. It's really good but there's a -4 int penalty and because you get natural weapons you won't get iterative attacks. (You're GM may say that you can't use actual weapons as a result of having short swords on the end of your hands as well or that you'd have to take a special feat to do so.)

Actually the Feral template gives different advantages, based on your "monster level". It's a +1 ECL by itself, but until and unless you either apply it to a monster race with hit dice of its own, or devote some levels simply to beaing a feral-whatever, it doesn't give that much. In essence, it's a variable ECL package for PC races.

The only way to devote "levels" to being a monster race is to either take a race for your character that comes with HD or to take paragon levels. 3 paragon levels is the max you can get and 3 racial HD doesn't get you much out of the feral template.

I have no idea what you are talking about. 10th level Feral Gestalted Centaurs do not do over 200 hps in damage on a single pounce with a lance. Nope. I never saw that.

It's raining bugbear again...

Heh, yeah... Stephane splattered stuff, Org was busy dodging rain and I got to use tons of kewl powers (wild feats are friggin' COOL). Did I even cast so much as a single spell? I think I just charged at stuff using Cheetah's Speed and used Savage Graple to add the Sneak Attack dice I got for a paltry +1 LA for the Crafty or Sneaky template...

I've said it before, but it bears repeating: that was one hell of a fun game, D.

Hmmmm, are there any low level adjustment races that give you the ability to cast Alter Self or something to that effect? I looked at lycanthropes and the total LA is way too much to make it a quick way to the PrC.

If I could get the Changeling race from Eberron in that'd totally solve my problem, otherwise the next best option is looking like the Fey'ri. LA +2 (or +3, depending on what powers you take) and they get Alter Self at will as a spell like ability. But they don't become barbarians. Dammit...
