For Origen's FTF version of the campaign, I'm trying to design Martin Blank. He's got a 16 DEX, the dump stat is currently CHA 8, and he has 12's or 14's for other stats.

I'm envisioning his 10th-level version as a Fast Hero/Gunslinger with two levels of Infiltrator (Improvided Implements--e.g., the pen), but I'm undecided as to whether WIS or CHA will be the dump stat. He certainly seemed aimless and emotionally stunted in Grosse Pointe Blank, making a case for WIS 8. Yet, he also seemed unobtrusive enough--especially when he seemed to have been a non-entity in HS--to call for a low CHA.

The case against a low CHA, and/or for a level of Charismatic Hero? When he glibly tossed off one-liners about his profession, people seemed to take it in stride (esp. Bart Newman). In his scenes with Grocer, he exhibited fast-talk and banter skills that he'd possibly developed over the intervening years.

Thoughts, anyone?

I'd go with the wis dump stat... at least to start. Make that a stat you improve over time, and go with a good charisma. he'll need that for his interaction skills which he had in good order... especially if you want to intimidate or bluff. All of which are good things for martin blank.

I'd make Charisma the dump stat.

Martin is too aware, his senses and and awareness of his surroundings are critical to survival in that kind of profession.

Thanks, Joe. I'll stick with Charisma as the dump stat.

I'd wavered over whether Martin's moral crisis resulted from a certain lack of development in that area, yet the game stat reflects more than just self-awareness.

The way he casually threw off one-liners about his profession to civilians, could be misconstrued as an ability to fast-talk. However, both hidufel and Origen pointed out that the one-liners were in response to questions of the "So, what have you been up to?" variety that most people just gloss over. Also, Martin really wasn't intimidating or commanding, and he was a loner. All are sound arguments for a low Charisma.

OK, here's Martin at Level 1 Fast Hero:

Str 12 (+1), Dex 16 (+3), Con 12 (+1), Int 12 (+1), Wis 12 (+1), Cha 8 (-1), DC 16, HP 9, AP 5, Wealth 14, Initiative +3.

Starting Occupation: Dilettante. When you think about it, Martin, the product of an upper-middle class Detroit suburb, seemed pretty aimless or complacent with his choice of career up until the start of Gross Pointe Blank.

Skills: Craft +3 (mechanical, 2 ranks), Drive +5 (2 ranks), Escape Artist +4 (1 rank), Hide +7 (4 ranks), Knowledge/Streetwise +2 (1 rank), Knowledge/Current Events +3 (1 rank, 1 competence), Move Silently +7 (4 ranks), Sleight-of-Hand +7 (4 ranks), Habla Espanol (1 rank), Tumble +7 (4 ranks).

Here's where I'd like to take him over the next 11 levels: 3 more Levels Fast Hero, 3 levels Dedicated Hero, 2 levels Infiltrator, 1 level Gunslinger, and 1 more level each of Dedicated Hero and Infiltrator.

Feats on his shopping list are (Grosse?) Point Blank Shot (Fast 2), Combat Expertise (3rd level feat), Weapon Finesse (Fast 4), Double Tap (6th), Alertness (Dedicated 2), Two-Weapon Fighting (9th), Dodge (Infiltrator 3), Mobility (12th), and Far Shot (Dedicated 4).

restricted firearms license (DC 15) lowered a wealth 14 to a wealth 12

Beretta 93R (DC 18) lowered wealth 12 to a wealth 10
Glock 17 (DC 18) Lowered wealth 10 to a wealth 8Dodge Neon (DC26) Lowered wealth 8 to a 0 (2d6 {6+1=7} +1 = -8 to wealth)You bought yourself to a wealth score of 0 on all that. Man but thats cool.
