Alright, I really really really do not get d20 Modern at all

The game is mostly about 'destroying people with a deluge of gunfire'

Guns are based off . . . . dex! Lo and behold, the only class with Fighter BAB is strong hero. Whose feat tree does not at all seem good for well, guns

But there feat tree is good for hacking people with a sword. Until you run out of such feats at least. But its a 10 level class, and none of the Prestige Classes at all seem all that great for sword hacking, except the Shadow Slayer, which if the game doesnt have Shadows may not work so well

The beauty of d20 is that you can grab feats and other content from other d20 sources. So, if you want to build the ubersword character, grab feats and presige classes from D&D. If you like, I can even post my Overlord prestige class which is intended for the greatsword master.

You don't NEED a fighter's BAB for gun battles because armor is a lot more scarce.

Heck, I'll post it anyway because I want to show it off.
The prerequisites are set up so that a multiclass fighter/cleric or fighter/barbarian could enter it also.

Overlord prestige class

Entry Requirements:
• Base Attack Bonus: +10
• Skills: Balance 4 ranks, Intimidate 13 ranks, Sense Motive 4 ranks
• Feats: Cleave, Combat Expertise, Improved Critical(greatsword), Power Attack, Skill Focus(Intimidate), Weapon Focus(greatsword), Weapon Specialization(greatsword)

Hit Die: D10
Base Attack Bonus: as Fighter
Good Saving Throw: Fortitude

Special Abilities:
1 Bonus Feat, Greatsword Mastery, Aura of Power
2 Greater Weapon Specialization (greatsword) feat
3 Parry +1, Blade Mastery
4 Bonus Feat
5 Deep Strike, Reach
6 Parry +2
7 Epic Weapon Focus(greatsword) feat
8 Irresistible Critical
9 Parry +3
10 Epic Weapon Specialization(greatsword) feat, Precision Mastery

Class Skills (2 + Int modifier per level): Balance, Craft, Intimidate, Jump, Knowledge(Nobility and Royalty), and Sense Motive.

Class Features:
Bonus Feat: You gain the Greater Weapon Focus(greatsword) feat at 1st level even if you do not meet the prerequisites for that feat. If you already have the Greater Weapon Focus(greatsword) feat, you may instead gain a bonus feat selected from the fighter list.

Greatsword Mastery: You receive the benefits of the Quick Draw feat when drawing your greatsword. When wielding a greatsword, you add a competence bonus equal to your class level on your opposed attack rolls to resist being disarmed and to your greatsword’s hardness for the purpose of resisting sunder attempts.

Aura of Power: You project a presence, which others find difficult to oppose. In combat if you have not attacked or prepared to attack, anyone of lower hit die seeking to harm you must succeed on a Will save (DC 10 + your class level + your Charisma modifier) to do so. Anyone who fails this save is forced to Delay their attack until after your turn. In social situations, anyone seeking to verbally assault or abuse you must make a Will save (DC as above) or be forced into silence for one minute per class level. You must be present and visible during this interaction for this ability to function. In addition, you may reduce any penalties to your attempts to Intimidate by your class level, to a minimum penalty of zero. Such as penalties incurred from rushing an attempt, or from attempting to intimidate multiple opponents simutaneously.

Parry: You gain a shield bonus equal to the listed Parry bonus while wielding a greatsword, but only against attacks that you are not flat-footed against.

Blade Mastery: You gain the benefits of any feat specific to the greatsword (such as Weapon Focus(greatsword)) when wielding a sword that isn’t a light weapon and which is wielded two handed.

Deep Strike: You take full advantage of the size of your weapon. Your greatsword does damage as if it was one size category larger than normal (3d6 with a medium-sized greatsword) when attacking an opponent of a size category larger than yours.

Reach: Any greatsword you wield has reach, so you can strike opponents 10 feet away with it. In addition, unlike most other weapons with reach, it can be used against an adjacent foe.

Irresistible Critical: Your greatsword threatens a critical hit against opponents and objects immune to critical hits when you roll a natural 20, and does double damage when you confirm this critical threat. This irresistible critical is not affected by any other ability or effect that modifies critical hits. (Such as…)

Precision Mastery: Any normal attack by your greatsword that threatens a critical hit is automatically confirmed.

I don't know about grabbing prestige classes from other sources. Classes in D20 Modern seem decidely lower powered. The spellcasting goes to what, 4th level in the Mage and Cleric equivalents?
