Somehow in d20 Modern Post Apoc game that just started up, of the 5 PCs we had only one of them had anything at all resembling combat ability

And the one of them in question is mine, which isnt to surprising. Actually, she's more combat oriented than normal for my characters, being a Point Buy method sort

Make them pay you to act as their bodyguard.

If they don't when bad things happen, do whatever is in your own best interests. You should seriously own them.

It's Post-Apoc, so you're excused for acting in your own best interest. It's in the literature.
