Last week, I decided I needed some Christmas money/financial independence, so I started applying for jobs. Lucky for me, only needed to apply once. :) I am now an official employee for Gourmet Shuttle, Inc. (http://www.gourmetshuttle.com) as a Customer Service Rep. This means I answer phones, take orders, and then place orders. $8.50 an hour, and I start today. :D I'm nervous, but excited.

Good for you. Talk to Jess about stress relief for answering the phones all day.

Oh and if you here phones ringing when you are off duty that is normal. I used to answer the phone in my sleep.

Gummi Bears. I ate pounds of gummy bears at work. I also did puzzles.

Off subject, Janet, I'm still interested in hearing your impression of Religious Science once you visited there.

Okay, job first.

Pros:
Great co-workers that know some of the same people I do, despite age differences
Half-hour training
$8.50/hr (previously mentioned)
Lots of free time
It's not a fast food place

Cons:
I'm the youngest there
I accidentally hung up on my first person
Only pays every two weeks
Every site is blocked so I have NOTHING to do in the hours I'm not taking calls (and considering I took all of FOUR calls in five and a half hours, that's saying something)
Ornery customers getting angry with me for things that are the drivers' faults

All in all, a pretty good night. I go to the same high school that one of my co-workers graduated from, and my AP Chem teacher is another co-worker's tennis partner. Then the gal who I share an office with has a major interest in theatre, like myself. It's just a little weird that the person closest to me in age is seven years older. Then, one completely stoned customer got annoyed with me for the restaurant not having a certain dish. Yes, jackass, because I personally print the menus. Still, on a whole, positive experience. Now time to fill out tax return forms!

Religious science

Pros:
Gay-friendly
Meditation and yoga classes
Recording studio
Bookstore
Very warm and loving community
GINSENG TEA AFTER SERVICE!
Close to home
Very dynamic minister

Cons:
Meditation class was a letdown
Minister still said cheesy things that every minister does
At times a bit too touchy-feely for me, but that's all churches
It's ALL old people
I still didn't feel God, like I do when I'm praying by myself

'Kay, so I got up at the crack of dawn to bike to Meditation, forty-five minutes before service. First we picked a card from a deck (mine was PASSION: resurrect a childhood dream) to guide us through the day, then we did twenty minutes of silence with our eyes closed to Native American music (I'm guessing). That was all well and good until the old lady on my left kept on almost falling out of her chair and onto my shoulder and the lady on the right insisted on humming while she breathed. I'll give it another shot before I give it up, though. Next, the service. I have to say, after skimming a lot of the literature, it didn't contradict with my beliefs. They believe God is any sex you believe he/she is, IF you believe God has a sex, that there is nothing but God therefore we are all a part of God, and that you must rely upon yourself to initate change in your life. The sermon was titled, "Setting Loving Limits", and the minister talked about how you should not pretend to be something else to placate others, to have self-control over your actions, and don't allow family and friends to drag you down into their problems when you're trying to help. And considering my current situations (dieting, estrangment from my father, and trying to maintain a good relationship with my ex), it was really helpful. I was surprised to hear him say something to the effect of, "You can read that in the Bible!" because I wasn't quite sure Religious Science was Christian based. Now I know, right? But like previously mentioned, I still didn't feel "the presence" like most people say they do at church. Maybe it takes time, I dunno. But at least I felt welcomed, unlike every other church I've been to previously.

My impression overall, Org? A bunch of hippy philosophy that has some really good points, and a few iffy ones, but on the whole, a good church to go to if you are perhaps just getting back into religion or are an agnostic.

I think I'm going to continue going for two reasons. One: my entertainment career. They're in need of a low contralto for choir (like myself), and they record all their sessions. AND, if I worked hard, they have soloists now and then. Two: the gay-friendly aspect. It's nice to find a community that's more middle ground (when it comes to religion and God) like myself, as most of my gay friends are fiercely atheistic and deride me for believing in a higher power.
