I thought of you last night when I took an order.

Myself: So, Ms. X, where would you like to order from tonight?

Customer: Oh, Olive Garden. I'm Italian and I love Olive Garden. It's the only Italian restaurant I eat at!

And she made several other comments about being Italian and she loved authenticity best. :D I smiled to think of what you would say to this woman.

[sputters indignantly on tony's behalf]

i doubt this woman would recognize a pignoli nut if buried up to her neck in them.

She's an American, and she loves oregano, basil, garlic, rosemary, and some small amount of hot pepper flakes spread on her tomato paste-based red sauce crap with crappy red table whine to drink along with whatever overprocessed pasta-substitute she has chosen and crusty white bread.

You know, I really LIKE tomato-paste-based red sauce crap.

That said... the real thing is the best. I was once on vacation @ the Gulf Coast of Florida and was taken to a "real" Italian restaurant -- as in, run by a family who spoke Italian first and English barely.

The food was like nothing I've ever had on this earth. It would almost be worth the plane ticket to take a day trip and eat dinner there again.

That makes me want to cry.

She was probably a fifth generation Sicilian immigrant. They're notorious for thinking a can of Ragu with some Kroger brand dried pasta in a box and a crust of frozen heat 'n eat garlic bread is an authentic Italian meal.

Sorry, I've been to Olive Gardens once. That's not italian cooking.
