One thing a BBS system like this has is the ability to put up more forums.
Something I wouldn't mind seeing is a forum for the posting of characters. This would let your character be subject to peer review of a sort and give all of us access to a supply of characters as NPCs or e ven PCs in our games. (Invited to a game of Ars Magica and don't have the books? Well there may be a few ArM characters up on the board.
Think that GURPS Zen Archer would work well iin your HARP game? convert it.
And so on.

I could go either way on this one.
One the one hand, it looks like there's about 1-2 character threads a week on this forum, and they seem to be getting a fair amount of attention/input without a dedicated forum. If we could be reasonably sure that branching off into a separate forum would increase the number of character threads, it might be worth doing, but I'm not sure how likely this is.

I don't see that character threads are cluttering this forum up. We could ask that people start a thread of that nature with a uniform name, like putting (character) at the front of the thread title or something.

A [Char Post] tag at the forefront of the titles would be more useful, I think.
I'm trying to avoid splitting the RPG stuff up into sub-forums, because I don't want to end up with a bunch of dead mini-forums that nobody ever reads/uses... like we had on RPGHost.
With the low level of character posts we get -- I don't really see a problem with having them here. If they get to be intrusive, I can always set up a forum and move them over then.

I honestly don't think there are enough new characters posted around here to warrant an entire forum for it. I'd just put character tags in the thread title, and possibly a system reference, like GURPS or D&D 3.X.

Agreed.
I wouldn't visit a character forum on a regular basis, but commenting on one that just popped up on a page I am visiting is something else.
Only sub-forum I would add would be for continuing PbP games. But even then, each game could have it's own desciptor tag.

A tag would be better than a forgotten subforum - as long as everyone knew what the tags were and always used the right tag. Like a sticky list? Or a sticky FAQ?
Definitely makes it easier to search. What tags are we using now?
D&D3.5, Proposed, Char Post, Idea, Poll,...?
What tags do we want to use?
System names like GURPS, D&D, sure. What else?

And.... yeah. Funny that we haven't seen any character postings since this thread went up. At all.

There's a limit of 19.5k for PDFs. I had to zip my PC for the Black Ops campaign.
Would it be possible to punch that limit up a little?
