I am not entirely sure how recoil works, reading different books gives me difference confused impressions

So, say Joyce has a Beretta 92, and skill 15 with it. The Beretta 92 has a recoil of -1. And a ROF of 3

So Joyce shoots it, and her first roll is at 15 since no recoil. He second roll is at 14 (the -1 recoil), but, does it continue to decrease or does it hold steady at 14 as she fires it more? Is the third shot at 13, 4th at 12 and so on? Or is it still at 14? It is not entirely clear

Then suppose Joyce decides she would rather use a AK-47 which she also has 15 skill in, and has recoil of -1. So, she fires it on full auto, -1 penalty to her first burst of 4 rounds, -2 to the second and so on. How does it work if she decides to use her AK-47 semi auto? Is its recoil still -1?

I haven't played GURPS in ages, but IIRC it's cumulative.

I think it's cumulative until you spend a round to re-steady your weapon. But it's been a while for me, too.

For GURPS 3rd edition, recoil is applied to "burst fire" (i.e. auto fire) from automatic weapons. A burst can last one or more turns. The same recoil penalty is applied to all shots from the same burst in the same turn. Recoil accumulates by turn, not by individual shot. So if you just did a burst of 3 shots in one turn for a weapon with a RoF of 3, then the base Rcl penalty is applied to all three shots, but if the burst extended beyond the first turn, you get cumulative Rcl penalties.

This no longer the case in 4th, as was pointed out to me in an online game I'm in. (When the rules get corrected to you, you tend to remember them. That it happend a week ago yesterday also helps the memory process. :( )

Under the 4th edition rules, (Characters p.271) for ea ch FULL multiple of the RCL score of your weapon you make the roll to hit by, you score a hit up to the maximum number of shots fired.

Note: recoiless weapons like laser pistols now have a RCL value of 1 instead of zero, since dividng by zero produces an infinite result. Thus your Baretta would have at least a RCL of 2 since it HAS a recoil.

Looking for GURPS 3e rather than 4e stuff

Im not inspired by 4e enough to want to switch yet

Though I am in one 4e game now and Ive understood that, namely due to getting into animated discussion with DM about 'Why is my Beretta recoil -2!?'

Det, that's automatic fire, not semi-automatic fire.
For semi-auto, you had it right the fist time.
Each shot adds a cumulative penalty for recoil. Until you spend a round steadying your weapon.

Is the pistol a true semi-automatic or a revolver? If the latter GET A SPEED LOADER to go with it.
