One thing we're having to learn about in d20 Modern is buying, wealth, etc. There are many things characters want that are not listed in the SRD. Ask for what you want, here, and I'll tell you what the DC is.

For example, Steve wanted a Sig Sauer. It was purchase DC 18, according to both Ultramodern Firearms and d20 Modern Weapons Locker. He rolled a 20, with a wealth bonus of +9. So yeah, he got it. But his wealth went down by 2 for the purchase: 1, since the purchase was 1 to 10 points higher than his wealth bonus, +1 because the DC was 15 or higher.

So far, on the shopping list are laser sights and whatever you call those little flourescent points you put on the sights for shooting at night.

Hmm

If Im reading it right, does it mean someone would do best to buy all the really cheap stuff first before moving on to the big things?

That's correct. You want to be everything with a wealth value equal to or less than your present wealth modifier, because those cannot decrease your wealth, and if an expensive wealth item decreases your wealth, it might make those things capable of decreasing your wealth value further.

Hmmm

A quick skimthrough of the handguns section of Weapons Locker shows that pistols tend to be in the 15-18 range, but there are a couple decent looking ones that are 14, and I saw one as high as 22. None below 13

Apparently the designers want handguns = wealth goes down

So then, I was rather stupid, wasn't I?

A Dodge Neon costs 26.

*sigh*

How much is one of these:

How much is a cellphone?

How much are hydroshok bullets?

How much is decent tailoring?

Steve has a trunk full of old books, pictures, and other memorabilia from his past life with his parents in storage. How much will that be costing him to maintain?

Here are the things I see Steve as having:

A poncho (recently acquired)
A leather backpack (with a hidden holster), containing:

A Hebrew/Aramaic Concordance
A Folio of Hebrew War Poetry thought to have been authored by King David, among others (in an waterproof/protective cover)
A well-thumbed Hebrew-English/English-Hebrew dictionary
A well-thumbed copy of L'Morte D'Artur in the original French
A Sig 9mm with night sights (and perhaps an integrated laser-sight www.laser-max.com)
two extra clips
A portable firearm cleaning kit
A toolkit (socket wrench, screwdriver, needlenose pliers, regular pliers)
A roll of duck-tape
A Leatherman
A roll of paracord (50', natch)
three juggling beanbags
A copy of "Juggling For the Complete Klutz"

How difficult is that?

The Sig was DC 18, and reduced your wealth level by 2. Ammunition is DC 5, and you don't need to roll, nor will it affect your wealth level.

Laser sights etc. I don't know, yet. I'll work on the rest.

Thanks a lot...

I suspect that special ammunition might be more difficult to get, but he's too smart to just load with wadcutters from the range. He'd need to be using warshots (if there's a difference in D20 Modern...)

Is there?

The purchase DC for an MP5 Navy, or an MP5A5, is 20. Suppressors add another 2 to the DC, as on the MP5SD. Some MP5s are mastercraft, and grant a +1 to attack rolls. Some do not.

Is there a difference if I am a Navy SEAL or a regular civillian?

I seem to recall there being something like a -6 if you have to equip from the armory for a mision... i can look up the relevent text and give you a better look when i get a chance today.

Here we go... under requisitioning equipment... its loaned not bought, but still requires a wealth check to acquire...

so if you are ok with the requisition rather then outright buying it,

object is necessary for assignment ---> +6
Object has obvious application for assignment ---> +4
Object has peripheral application for assignment ---> +2
No obvious application ---> -2
object restriction military ---> -6
Proficiency for weapon ---> +2
Returned all your gear on previous mission ---> +2

so that wealth dc is 22 -6 (required by mision) +6 (military restriction) -2 proficient -2 (previous returned good condition eq) =18 wealth DC.

Thats the qiuck look as far as I can see so far.

Is that from the core rules, or a supplement, hidufel?

core rules...

it gets better... this mp5 would obviously have a military restriction... so to get a military license for this requires a wealth check of dc20. if you try to buy it without the appropriate military license, it add +3 to the purchase dc on the black market.

that 22 dc mp5 bought extralegally, would have a wealth dc check of 25, and it would take three days. if you want it tomorrow, (the earliest you can get this on the blackmarket) it would be a purchase dc of 27.

Where is that in the d20 Modern core book? Do you have a page number? I really need to review this stuff.

Ah found this part... which is too important to leave out... the "requisitioning" part is not a purchase dc involving wealth check. It is a level check... lvl+d20.

so that mp5 can be acquired by a level check of 18 not a purchase check.

So a final answer that i can see, would be yes there is a difernece if you a navy seal vs civilian... for you its a 22 Purchase DC, the civilian its +3 higher.
