What sort of salad dressing do you usually use?
Commercial or homemade.
Though we use a variety of commercial ones, it usually comes back to italian dressing or a italian variety (like zesty italian).
But for homemade salad dressing, I still prefer my dad's ridiculously simple recipe: vinegar + melted butter + seasonnings (usually just salt & pepper).
For green salads, I can't help myself from wanting this kind all the time.

When I use salad dressing (which is fairly rare because I'm pretty indifferent about salad) it's blue cheese salad dressing.

In order of use:
1- Olive Oil, Wine Vinegar, salt and pepper(S&P). (salad)
2- Olive Oil, Wine Vinegar, Dijon mustard, crushed garlic, S&P (usually steamed veggies such as green beans or asparagus)
3- Olive Oil, Wine Vinegar, crushed feta cheese and oregano flakes, S&P. (salad)
4- Caesar Salad dressing (my wife's family recipe, it's very good, I'll dig up the recipe if people want it.).

Nine times out of ten, I just like lemon juice and olive oil with a little salt and pepper. That, of course, is homemade.
If I'm out at a restaurant and a salad is offered, I go with balsamic.

What is this salad of which you speak?
I normally go for a bleu cheese if such is available, as it can drown out the taste of the salad, but if its not good bleu cheese then its not very good anyway, and if it is good bleu cheese then its such a waste to use it on salad

I usually use homemade-vinegreatte. Equal parts balsamico vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. Add lots of two different spice-mixes made for sallads (salt is a main ingredient in them), ground black pepper, a little cayenne-pepper and if I have it at home some fresh basil.
On restaurants I usually go for just adding salt to the salad.
Other than that I sometimes use a sauce my parents called Anna Blomqvist's sallad dressing.
The recipe for it (1 portion) is:
1 egg
0.4 dl sugar
0.4 dl white vinegar
1 ml salt
1 ml dry english mustard
little bit of cream.
Blend the egggs and the sugar in a pot. Add vinegar, salt and mustard powder. Bring it so a simmering. Remove the sauce and stir as it cools. It will hold for some time and can be "watered down" with some cream or milk according to taste.

I love commercial salad dressings. Its not unusual for me to be working on 3-4 bottles of salad dressing of various brands and flavors that I haven't tried before.

vinaigrettes are tasty and how i usually like to enjoy a salad.
otherwise, i'm a fan of bleu cheese, or sometimes either thousand island or russian dressings, none of which i know how to make at home.

What are these "homemade" salad dressings that you speak of?
Our family uses commercial Ranch-style dressing almost exclusively. I like commercial Italian-style dressings also.
I used to like French or Thousand Island but not so much any more.
I used to hate blue cheese as a child (thought that it tasted like vomit) but while I don't use it on salads unless I get it confused with Ranch I no longer think that it's so bad.
I prefer blue cheese crumbles, though, to dressing.

Homemade, usually just olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Occassionally add whole grain mustard and/or some herbage to olive oil and go with that - usually because we're out of the vinegar.

Generally lemon juice, salt and pepper.
If I really need a dressing then italian or viniagrette.
I used to love bleu cheese but now that dang penecillin allergy makes it one I have to avoid. *sighs*

I usually dont bother with homemade dressings...
comercial is way too easy, and i like the taste of thousand island dressing, french dressing, and ranch dressing. I Also like the taste of oriental ginger dressing. (if its done right)

Commercial, because its easy. My veggie roommate has dominated the fridge with her salad dressings. She forgets what she has and buys a new bottle, so we have like 3 bottles of ranch and 6 of viniagrette (or however you spell it) and random assorments of other things.
Personally, I'm still picky about my salads. Either ranch or caesar for me.

OOOh, Bobo! Balsamic is my favorito! I also enjoy blue cheese crumble.
