What are your favorite feel-good dishes? Is there any particular reason, or sentiment attached to them?

Grilled cheese sandwiches. Not really, just good taste with a hint of nostolgia for minimal work.

Red licorice. Not sure why, but it's been that way since childhood.
For actual food it would have to be mashed potatoes.

No particular sentiments, other than "comfort" because they bring back good memories:
Fried potatoes with onion
Homemade beef stew
Homemade chili
Homemade bread and/or rolls, fresh from the oven with melted butter.

a good salami and a variety of cheese (usually hard and sharp cheeses) with either a loaf of fresh bread or hard mostly dried bread.
The reason? when I was growing up this was always on the table when we had people over. Evenings with family and friends playing cards or just debating the latest political debable with everyone munching on some form of cold cut or cheese.. and house wine (which wasn't always good, but plentiful)

gnocchi -- reminds me of my mom
grilled cheese -- reminds me of my dad
fruit ice pops -- when I'm really depressed

For wet and cold days, nothing beats a mug of tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich.
Mash potatoes with real butter or gravy when you want something filling.
And of course, ice cream makes everything better.

I'd have to say that most things in the "dessert" and "snack food" category is an obvious choice.
But more specifically, I guess I'd have to go with dry sausage (like salami). The good ones are expensive but I never regretted buying and eating one.
Even for my game this evening I bought a pork sausage rolled in red pepper flakes.

I've had an utterly crap morning and right now I don't think I could eat a thing. =(

Does tea count as a comfort "food"?
If not, then I'll go with stir fry, or pancakes and bacon.

if by "tea" you mean the meal that occurs around 3-4, sure!
but if you mean the beverage, then no, not so much--at least, IMHO.

Nah, I think he means that he likes to chew tea leaves (for some reason). ;)
Myself, I much prefer the drink, it doesn't get caught in my teeth as much.

I think tea should count as comfort food. I know I use it that way.

Salsa and chips. Best comfort food in the world for me.
With Lady's homemade chili being a very close second, in first place on a cold day.

Potatoes, just about any variety. And a cold Corona. ;)
(My joke is - I'm German-Irish. I must have beer and potatoes, ere I die. I also like black leather coats of style, talk too much, and desire to blow things up - all on a very, very precise schedule. :D Yes, I am in recovery of all of the above.)
I once had a beer cheese soup that ended with me licking the bowl.
Any meaty yet creamy soup with potatoes is very comforting to my soul: baked potato soup, clam chowder, etc. I have not had gnocchi as a soup. I fear my first taste will end in an terrible obsession.
But hands down the best "comfort food" from the various fast food chains here in the States has got to be McDonald's french fries -hot and fresh with loads of salt.
They are wicked, they are.

A country breakfast is one of my favorite comfort meals. I remember waking up when I was little to the smell of bacon frying. I was in charge of making the toast when I was younger, and as I got older I fried the eggs. Today, I'm still proud of my fried eggs, I rarely break the yolk.
Peanut butter and jelly (or banana) is still one of my favorites. And tuna noodle casserole, which is so easy to prep and lasts me 2 days.

Chips and Salsa, with some habanero hot sauce thrown in there, and a few cans of Miller Lite. Though the beer isn't exactly food, it is comforting, and goes great with the hot salsa and chips.
