Ok, I like scary stories. So tell me the scariest thing that's happened to you while cooking?

My dad, sharpening knives. That's it.

He's not exactly careful when he does it and we try to give him plenty of leeway.

Aside from that, nothing scary. Unless you count the culinary experiments of my sister trying out a new recipe. She got better.

My youngest daughter in the kitchen planning to cook. Shudder.

One time she made a recipe I've made for years, hamburger pie. I even wrote it down in such detail a 5 year old could have cooked it.

I forgot to tell her to wash the pan before using it, and to not use a rusted pan.

I have a couple of friends that didn't realize that oil heated enough is flamable when some other things are added. The 4' pillar of fire was impressive!

well this isn't a cooking accident but it did happen in my mother's kitchen. As I mentioned in the other thread, my mother's kitchen is huge. We had this large table that was also the perfect heighth to stand at while cutting fabric. My mother makes the most gorgous quilts.
One night she was working with a new rotary cutter and turned her head to see what I was laughing at. As she was turning her head her hand slipped and the blade sliced her finger down almost to the tendon. I heard her cry of pain and went to see what happened. she was just staring at her finger in shock while blood was spurting everywhere. I grabbed some paper towells and put pressure on her finger. taped it down and grabbed her purse and keys and told her to get in the car. I helped her steer while we went to get her stitches. Thanks to my quick thinking she didnt scar much or lose much blood. the hospital staff patted me on my head like I was a dog.

It wasn't all that scary thinking back, but it was fairly entertaining.

My middle brother decided to do deep fried fries with an old fashion pot with meshed strainer. I was 15, he was 13 and the youngest was 10. I was in my room, my parents are out.

I get to the kitchen to see a 1 foot pillar of fire from the pot and my middle brother trying to do something about it, but was scared of getting hurt. The flames were growing higher. So I move my brother out of the way and yell at the other to open the patio door and get out. I grabbed the darned thing and took 5 step out through the patio door and put the thing down on the cement porch where it sputtered and died slowly. (We had a huge cement porch, I swear sometimes it seems that italians can only work with cement.)

Over all it wasn't much, but it could have turned ugly.

I almost burned my apartment down cooking mac and cheese in the oven about 2 weeks ago. It was amusing.
