So, here's the background I came up with. Still working on the mechanics.
Leolin began his un-life in the early years of college, at NYU (or city-appropriate university). He was a popular man -- Athletic, smart, friendly, and attractive. He had no particular degree he was working for, or a particular direction his life was heading. He had several interests, and didn't know which one he wanted to persue for the rest of his life. His love of art, incredible wit, winning features, and personal charisma gained the attention of a local Toreador, Nina Simone (fake name), looking for childe. The
Toreador, this being her first childe, asked her Primogen if she thought Leolin
appropriate. The Primogen, unbeknownst to the sire-not-quite-to-be, was blood bound to a Sabbat, Morey Kiel. Morey had and has a vendetta against Nina Simone, for when she was on Camarilla business, and accidentally brought werewolves back to his haven. After Morey demanded an apology, and a favor (it's his way of getting by), she snuffed him by stating
she would have done a favor to the world for destroying something so ugly. So he blood bound the Primogen (Coterie captured her, drained her blood, and force fed her Morey's), then made her promise to never tell of the occassion.
Morey took the approved childe, Leolin, before Nina could out of spite. He raised him in the classic Sabbat way, for one week, before Nina could stop him. She didn't know that Morey had embraced Leolin, and intended on getting her childe-to-be back. After driving Morey out, she found Leolin as a Nosferatu, and abandoned him. Leolin, having had one week of Vampiric pseudo-education, ran for the sewers -- the only place he could think of to
hide. There he encountered Roy Bellamont, a fellow Nosferatu, who belonged to the Camarilla. Roy took him in, taught him the Traditions, all behind the Camarilla's back. Once Roy thought Leolin ready, he told him to leave the city -- he would be recognized there -- and start anew elsewhere. Leolin took his surrogate sire's advice, and departed on a midnight freight train. He presented himself to The Prince, as he was taught, and has been living in (game city) ever since.
