Inspired by a blog I read somewhere (I can't remember where ;) ) what is your favorite hot sauce?

Tobasco is the old standby of course. I like the standard as well as the chipotle flavor.

When I do my hot wings I use Frank's hot sauce.

I like Taco Bell fire sauce that you can get in the packets. You can also buy Taco Bell hot sauce in the bottles in stores occasionally.

One of my favorites, though, is Pico Pica (http://www.mexgrocer.com/1382.html). It's more of a sauce than a condiment. For me, it has just the right amount of fire and other flavors.

Tabasco. I put it on/in everything. The flavor is great. It's got a decent kick to it that isn't so hot that you can't taste the flavor. I've also noticed that I enjoy Habanero sauces/glazes, as long as they don't make them too hot.

Taco Bell sauce out of the jar tastes worse than out of the packets. I think it doesn't pick up that yummy foil flavoring.

Well, since I'm pretty much the only member of my family who's really a fan of hot sauces, I've experienced very little variety. We don't have Taco Bells in my area, heck, mexican food is overall uncommon around here.

In the end, tabasco sauce is what I practically always use. And I use the big bottles.

I'm more a salsa person than a hot sauce person.

That said, I love the green tomatillo salsa as well as the fresh pico de gallo.

Lady makes great salsa.

And we have two restaurants semi-local that make good stuff. THough the closer one is hot enough to make tears run.

Our drummer told me that Pico de Gallo meant The Roosters Beak. Is that true?

Yes, that's true.

One wonders why?

my current hot sauce addiction features the peri-peri pepper native to africa. it's got a decent heat and great flavor, and is highlighted well in the zulu zulu (http://www.mohotta.com/product/1372/1) and african rhino (http://www.mohotta.com/product/427/1) hot sauces.

Like Battlenymph I prefer salsa

My old roommate used this stuff (http://extremefood.com/product.php?id=12). It's so hot it's ment to be aplied with an eye dropper. It actually left red marks on his girlfriends skin when he spilled some on her hand.

Now that's the kind of hot sauce that's more for the closet BDSMer rather than the epicurean. You can't taste anything once that's on there.

actually...i bet that if you put a drop into a vat of chili, you'd get all manner of good heat w/out interfering with the flavors of the spices already there.

I don't know. Most of the ones I've tried that are hot enough to burn your skin don't have much flavor of their own.. Just heat.

I'd rather have flavor, even if it's just one drop.

BN, it's precisely b/c they don't add any flavor that i find the product potentially useful. if you want the heat, this stuff makes sense. if you're making a thai-style dish and lack thai chilis but have this, you maintain the thai flavor profile. ditto, tex-mex or cajun or whatever cuisine may be appropriate.

You're into BDSM... come on, admit it.

So my point is still valid.

Hmmm... I'm thinking you have a closet fetish for black leather and flogging.

Why on earth would anybody willingly submit to being flogged?

And don't get me started on black leather. Leather is brown, tan, or white, depending upon the tanning process. Dyeing it afterwards looks stupid, doesn't wear well, and keeps the leather from absorbing saddle soap or neatsfoot oil the way it should.

You can keep protesting, but we know the truth now. :D

*gets out her flogger just for Parz*

actually BN, i still don't think you understand. products of that sort definitely have a purpose. they just aren't hot sauces. you're thinking them as necessarily having to add flavor, when that isn't the purpose to these things at all--which is what parz is also saying.

and while i'll confess that i find myself shocked at the fact that parz & i agree on anything at all about food, weirder things have happened. :>
