Ok, in my change from gainful employment to acting full time. I've realized tongiht that about all I have in the house right now is ramen noodles.
My daughter LOVES ramen but I'm not so fond..
Does anyone have some interesting and inexpensive things you can do with ramen? I have a couple but......
Save me.

I like to make a dish you can subsitute tofu for.
it involves napa cabbage chopped fine.
enough to cover the bottom of the serving dish.
then you put the cooked ramen noodles over the cabbage
and then there is the chicken or in your case tofu that gets put on top of that with peanut sauce.
to make your own.. add 2 tablespoons of peanut butter (you can add more depending on how thick you want the sauce) to a pan on medium heat.. 1 can of coconut milk, 1 tsp of garlic, 1 tsp of soysauce mix together till it is evenly blended. pour over the noodles and chicken/tofu when it is done.

When I wanted to spice my Ramen up, I'd get a bag of mixed, frozen vegetables, thaw and sautee them in olive oil, then add that to the Ramen mix (ussually Oriental). Then throw some soy and a dash of tobasco. Tobasco is very optional, though. . . I put it on everything.
There's a cookbook called Everybody Loves Ramen. You might want to check it out or any number of other ramen cookbooks to be found at your local bookstore.

But..... I have an entire forum here catering to my every need! Why would I spend money at a bookstore? :confused2:

I actully saw this on an episode of Good Eats today. linky (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_24166,00.html)
2 packages Ramen noodles
1/2 cup dried mushrooms, chopped
20 large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup sliced scallions
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 quart vegetable broth
1/2 cup mirin
1/4 cup soy sauce
4 teaspoons sesame oil
Special equipment: 4 (18-inch) squares aluminum foil
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Divide ramen noodles evenly in center of each of the 4 pieces of aluminum foil. Stack the following ingredients on top of noodles, in this order: mushrooms, shrimp, onions, scallions, red pepper flakes, and salt. Pull sides and corners of pouch up to form a small basket shape leaving an opening at the top to pour in liquid.
In small bowl, combine vegetable broth, mirin, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Distribute liquid evenly among packs. Press foil together, leaving a small opening to allow steam to escape. Place on cookie sheet and bake in oven for 15 minutes. Serve immediately.

My assumption was that he was just having the noodles, not the soup. That's how I prefer my ramen.
Uck. *shudders*
But then, I'm not a noodle fan.

I eat the soup, with the noodles. I like both.
Note: When I think of Ramen, I think of those square packages of dried noodles and a little spice packet that you can buy from anywhere from 10 cents a pack to 33 cents a pack or whatever.
There are other noodle soups that are very similar and come in a cup or a bowl or whatever and you either use the microwave or just add hot water. I just don't call those "Ramen". Just semantics, I suppose.

I always thought ramen refered to the type of noodle, no matter what kind of packaging they come in. The kind in the cup and the kind that come as a square are cooked the same way, so I don't know what the difference is.

Put in a bowl, cover with water, microwave 4 minutes
Unless you have one of those uber conveniene store sterilizers of an oven, than 2-3 minutes will suffice

As long as it's *your* abyss, I'll do it. :naughty:
MSG chicken flavored, I didn't expect though. With me being wintergreen, it's not a combo that society is willing to accept. I fear our minty chicken flavor isn't meant to be.

Either that or it'll be next new big trendy flavor!
