Last year, Dennis Erikson came back to coach my alma mater.
He said he wanted to finish his coaching career where he started it, and signed a long-term contract for much less than he could have gotten on the open market.
Which he broke almost the moment the season was over.

I gave him mad props for coming back and taking a pay cut. I was terribly impressed.
And now, terribly disgusted.
