View Full Version : What do you want to leave behind? What do you hope continues?

What subjects, arguments, personal spats, grudges or just general annoyances do you want to leave behind at the old forum?
By the same token, what do you hope continues? Grows? Flourishes?
i don't honestly know that it's realistic to hope that anything is left behind. you have largely the same people, and that means we inherit largely the same baggage.
that said: i for one haven't really been adding much to discussions over on RPGhost for months. this is a busy time of year, to boot. so the one thing i want to leave behind from RPGhost is my erstwhile omnipresence.

I would love to leave the theatrical stage exits behind. I wouldn't mind leaving the ginormous .sig files behind, either. I don't think there are any subjects I'd want to leave completely in the past. It's more a matter of signal-to-noise than any particular topic. Assuming there's even a modest level of S/N, I say keep talking about them. People can ignore the things that don't pique their interest.
One of these days we should have a writing contest that is longer than the flash fiction contests we've had in the past. That might be more of a long-term thing. Another "one of these days" things, I might try my hand at a PBP game. I'd have to figure out how to make time for it...

Ok. next writing contest will be longer. How much longer? 5000 Words? 7,500 words? I don't think I can post anything that long here, but ger.contest can open a googlepage I guess.
gr...i almost wish there was an erotica contest.

There's no TOS on this site that claims there can't be one.
I just don't know that there'd be too many entrants.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the next one. Personally speaking, I've got a pretty busy December and January and then will be going to Japan for 2-3 months for work. If enough people are interested in doing a contest with longer entries soon, though, no reason to wait for me.
5,000 words is probably plenty. Might even be too much, as people will have to read all the entries for judging. I'd say the floor is open for discussion as to length.
i'm fairly certain there wouldn't, starhawk. hence the almost wishing. :>

Literotica huh?
Id try it . . . . but no clue if Id be able to pull it off. And whether anyone would like the results if I did
There might be more entrants for Literotica than you think but as with any writing contest it eventually comes down to time and other commitments allowing.
As for what to leave behind, I doubt there's too much that will actually get left. The overly dramatic exit tantrums wouldn't be missed by me but they do provide excellent targets for snark.

My entry:
It was hot out. Hot and sticky. Always is this time of year. Summer heat winding down with the humidity climbing through every crack in the ground. Hot and sticky, like Origen's mom's crotch.
I'd spent the day sitting on a bench, drinking a slushie, and people watching. Never ceases to amaze me how many beautiful women there are in this town. People claim they can never meet the right person, I find that hard to swallow given the number of people available. Not that Origen's mom finds anything hard to swallow.
I was just getting up to go home when a girl stumbled in front of me. Without really thinking I threw my arms out to catch her and managed to keep her off the ground, though the sudden addition of weight at a weird angle introduced me to types of back pain I'd only read about. Except that time Origen's mom bucked like a bronco and threw me into the dresser.
She smiled gratefully at me. I grimaced painfully in return, it was the best I could manage. Concern painted her face as she watched me stiffly try to straighten back up and realized what'd happened. She apologized profusely, like Origen's mom apologizes all the time for giving people the clap.
I told her it was no big deal, I was just a little sore from playing ball the other day and hadn't totally worked it out. She told me she had taken a massage therapy class and offered to help me with that problem. I told her that'd be nice. Origen's mom is a whore.
We went back to her place to see what was to be done. She offered me a drink when we came in. Milk, water, or lemonade. I took the lemonade, something told me it was going to be a sweet night and I wanted to set the tone well. She brought me a glass and asked if I would mind laying on the couch while she checked my back. Last time I laid on a couch Origen's mom sat on me and it took a week to climb out of the flab and wrinkles.
She slid her cool hands under my shirt. I got goosebumps from them. She gently probed the muscles of my back for sore spots, responding to my winces with soft and deep rubbing that at first intensified, but then dulled and erased the pain. It felt so good I had to distract myself from showing obvious pleasure. I just concentrated on the realization that laying on a couch reminded me far to much of laying on Origen's mom's lap. I managed to stay flacid.
When she was done with my back, she asked me to roll over. Who was I to say no? I gently turned over and looked at her soft, pretty features. She smiled back at me and asked how I was feeling. I told her I couldn't believe how good she was with her hands. Her eyes twinkled as she responded with silence and a handj-Origen's mom smells like anchovies fermented in a bucket of cheese.
The end.

Can I put in a suggestion? If it's literotica, let it be game related? Sort of keeping it related to who and what we are?
two things:
1. i should point out that literotica specifically is a site, not a genre of fiction. the genre is erotica, folks.
2. i can understand the desire to do that but just as games are sometimes genre-specific or cross-genre, i honestly don't know how desirable such a focus is. while i personally wouldn't care for it, that's just my opinion. however, that idea could be incorporated by having SFW and NSFW versions of contests, although that would certainly create more overhead and possibly require different people running the contests.
edit: hey, what about a separate forum for fiction?

That's fine. But there seems to be lots of times when it has nothing to do with whatever the person is saying/doing now. It's just a jab for a personal thing that's out of place.
As an example, Origens constant jabs at Bear for the Hazmat debate. That debate is dead and yet he keeps inserting it into other threads.

That's what I was thinking of too but Bear keeps doing the same crap and brining it up. That's why I was referencing that context. Walking around in a sandwhich board that says "Hit me! I want to be a Palooka today!" is not grounds to complain about getting hit IMHO.

YOu are biased. You or Origen being upset at Bear being a palooka has nothing to do with the Hazmat debate and everything to do with being upset at Bear being a palooka. So, following him around and poking at him with that is just so much junior high school behavior.
This is an example btw. You two aren't the only ones who do this and in all cases I think it's pretty childish.

Technically, I guess that place would be GE&R2, since Webrpg was GE&R1.
But it didn't really take off until Rpghost, and the newer format, so I think of Webrpg as more of a prequel than anything else.

Actually just the opposite. A WAT wouldn't work in that forum at all because the old threads kept moving deeper into the morass until they were however many pages underwater. When posting to the WAT would involve 10-20 minutes of "next page" clicks who would bother? It's not like the average WAT obsessive is going to be able to stay on target long enough. It takes a special kind of person to fit in here. A forumite must be tough, hard as nails, possessed of stellar intellect, totally ruthless, quick of wit, sharp of tongue, ready with the snark, drop dead sexy, blood thirsty, viscious and mean...
