OK so i like to try and experiment with diferent flavors... and i've come up with a very novel combination. It's also very simple.

Last night i cooked 6 very large steaks with this, and i think it was a hit for the gaming group.

Pour some olive oil in a dish big enough to comfortably drape your steaks in. Take your steaks one at a time, put in the olive oil, lightly coat and turn over, then sprinkle very lightly with fresh ground coffee, then sprinkle some fresh ground sea salt, and fresh ground peppers, ( I have a salt grinder and pepper grinder... ) turn steak over, and repeat. place the steaks on a lightly oiled pan and broil to your taste.

very nice flavor, and i found that some nice stone ground brwon musted was a very nice condiment to dip the steak in, as well.

Sounds disgusting. However, I would try a bite out of curiosity.

I think youd be surprised. If the coffee is overdone, yes it can be bad, but used very lightly, it imparts a very nice flavor.

i'm not a coffee fan but i can easily see the roasted flavor from the beans adding something quite nice to the beef.

i must offer respect to anyone who uses sea salt in his kitchen.

nothing gormet, vanilla nut and creme. finely ground in a grinder. you dont want the grounds too big or they will be very crunchy when you eat the steak.

it was a spur of the moment idea for steak preperation. I think I will do it again in the future.

It was quite good and the smoke detectors were just letting us know that the steaks were ready. I have to admit I would never have thought of adding coffee to steak, but it turned out well. Hidufel's spur of the moment ideas usually work out pretty well in regards to cooking.

Generally, I prefer to let a steak speak for itself... I'm not a fan of messing with it too much before (marinades and such) or after (sauces and gravies). Some of the best steak I've ever had just a bit of salt and a squeeze of lemon. That said, I also enjoy a nicely seasoned steak too. But sauces and such get in the way, IMHO.

Ed and I had a conversation about this before. Both of agree that steak should not be a connivance for sauces. Prepared correctly a good cut of steak will stand on it's own just fine. Although A do disagree about marinades. As long as it doesn't overpower the natural flavor of the meat I do somtimes use a marinade on my steaks depending on the cut.

I too normally enjoy an untarnished steak cooked on a wood fire. However, my brother introduced me to a nice, unexpected variation by sprinkling the flavor packet from shrimp ramen noodles over a steak before grilling. It was surprizingly good. I'm also a fan of sea salt.
