Something I meant to ask:

In previous years, players who were dropped from teams were placed on waivers and had to clear them. Once cleared, they were free agents, and could be picked up by anybody at any time.

Now it seems like the entire free market pool is placed back on waivers each week. Is this accurate?

If so, why the change.

Also, I really dislike the current waiver ranking system. Previously it was set based on your last waiver pickup, this year it is based on your standing. Was this predicated on ESPN's system or an intentional change?

I'm not sure which scenario you're describing... The week a player is released he's on waivers for 48hrs from the moment released and that can get around the all acquisitions processed on Thursday limitation. (Players dropped Sunday or Monday being the principal case where this comes up.) If it's not a player dropped like that then all other players are on waivers till Thursday. That's not a change from last year though. Yahoo handled it the same way.

So a player like...say Edelman, who wasn't on any of our teams, is a Free Agent from Thursday - Sunday or Monday, and then goes back on waivers?

I'm 99% sure it wasn't like that last year. You could pick up free agents (ie those who moved past their waiver period) any day of the week.

What about the other point about waiver order?

Yeah. You can do that with ESPN to. But only until the next week when the free agent is treated like everyone else. Every week everyone that was a free agent goes into the waiver pool like above. I'm more than a little sure this was basically how Yahoo handled it to. They might have had some minor diffs about how long a FA persisted as such but that's about it.

and honestly I find this version vastly preferable as everyone knows they have a chance to log in and go for their desired pickups. (As opposed to the person that has a fortuitous personal schedule.) It definitely emphasizes the importance of waiver order and such.

As for waiver order... ESPN resets it based on standings every week because they reset the 48hr waiting period every week. I dunno if it can be changed. if so it's one of the settings I left at default.
