while reading the NFC east blog on ESPN, i was really struck by how a blog entry about the redskins turned into yet another pissing contest b/n dallas and NYG fans in the comments. and it seems to me that in the NFC east, the 'skins really do get the short end of the stick.

but i wonder if that isn't in part due to a lack of identity, at least now, in the dan snyder era. consider:

DAL: we all know and either love 'em or hate 'em, but no football fan is neutral on the subject of the 'boys or jerry jones, and there's no disputing the success they've enjoyed.

NYG: one of the league's oldest and most storied franchises, it's an old school organization, in every conceivable way. as such, it was practically inevitable that there would be a rivalry with DAL.

PHI: the eagles (or, if you're from the area, the iggles) are a gritty, determined team that still hasn't won the big game, but is almost perennially competitive.

WAS: ...? sure, we can talk about the hawgs and joe theismann, but ever since then?

and that's when it struck me. the 'skins are like a PC you see in a character optimization forum: sure, it looks like it would be pretty spiffy...but there's nothing to it but those numbers. i'm not gonna argue that albert haynesworth is overrated on the basis of one game, and the season premiere at that*, but i was expecting some consistency from jason campbell: was he the dump stat of snyder's PC?

*although to be clear, for $100 million--QB money for that matter--more than 4 tackles would seem a reasonable expectation, no?

And here I thought you were talking about how the indians are taking them to court, the supreme one this time, over their offensive name.....

nah, a discussion like that would be on GE&R.
