short version: cleveland WR donte stallworth suspension arises from a manslaughter by DUI in which he accidentally killed a construction worker hurrying to make a bus after his shift. long version here (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4396130).

commentary: in all honesty, this angers me. stallwoth has from the jump been a stand-up guy, owned his responsibility...and for his enviable conduct, still is docked 1 year's pay? jeez, what the hell was goodell gonna do if stallworth pulled a plax?

i mean, i know a man's dead, but this stinks of example-making.

Goddell is grandstanding and drawing lines for the labor dispute. this'll get knocked down to 8 games when Stallworth appeals it. (Same as the other guy who had it happen. Leonard Little.)

chimaera: regrettably, that is indeed the correct vowel. what's worse is that apparently, i misspelled: it should be rendered correctly as donte'. no, i shit you not.

****: i'm not sure, given stallworth's statements to date, that he will. the distinct impression i'm getting is he's wracked with guilt and doesn't want to be one of "those" professional athletes, you know?

Yeah but I also think the man wants to play football and I don't think he's so humble about this that he's going to let goodell be a sanctimonious ass. He could take the year off and it's even possible he asked it to be set at a year to get his head on straight. I dunno.

Goddell has never been consistant in handing out punishments.
