Jimmy sat at the table in the interrogation room concerned but not frightened. He knew if he lost his cool he was a dead man walking. As he looked into the two-way mirror he said to himself
"Never thought I'd find myself here."
He wasn't in handcuffs or restraints of any kind. They knew he wasn't about to try to attack anybody, not his style.
Two men walked in standard issue FBI suits with a bulge where the holster was. The Gov. didn't pay well enough to have them tailored to help cover that. Fairly nice but not very, probably from a department store, there shoes were lace up. Which said to him these were field men The last thing you wanted in a foot chase was to lose a shoe because your loafer to slipped off.
One of the men carried two cups of coffee, the other coffee and a folder, presumably on him.
The coffee was placed in front of Jimmy and the men introduced themselves as Agent Michales and Agent Morrisey.
"Well lets see what we have here" said agent Morrisey as he opened the file "James Earl Brown you have had quite a career. Disabled the alarm at 2 bank vaults, and 4 warehouses. By the way the device you rigged up to put the system at First National into a continuous diagnostic loop was primo work. Numerous counts of hacking into secure databases including Industrial Light and Magic."
Michales stifled a laugh and said
"What did you want at ILM"
Jimmy was silent. He knew anything he said would only hurt him.
Morrisey continued
"I could go on but what I really want to know is how you removed any trace of your existence. And I do mean any. As far as the U.S. Government is concerned you were never born. No birth certificate, no social security number, no drivers licence. Hell you don't even have a library card.
Michales interjected
"Well if he doesn't exist what do we do now? We can't prosecute a non-existent man"
Jimmy didn't like the tone of his voice it wasn't one of concern but it playfull like he had a surprise that he wouldn't like.
Just then the door opened and a man in an army uniform walked in.
"You tell him yet?"
Jimmy spoke up for the first time
"Tell me what?"
Morrisey had a huge grin on his face
"No we didn't want you to miss the look on his face."
"Son" said the soldier "You just joined the army"
"No thanks I'll take my chances in court"
"Your not going to court" Said Morrisey "Like I said it would be a waste of the courts time to try to prosecute you. You simply never left enough evidence behind. But since you got into the right computers and erased all your records we just went ahead on your behalf and made some up for you.
The soldier then said
"And we think your skills will be better served in service to your country."
"And if I refuse"
"Then we put you in jail as going AWOL after which you are still in the army"
"Okay what happens after my 4 years are up?"
"Then you get on with your life hopefully with a new sense of duty"
"You said my skills would be better served in the army. I take it I'm not signed up for front line infantry."
"Demolitions"
"Demolitions? why demolitions?"
"Call it a hunch"
It was at this point that Jimmy knew he was truly screwed.
