You could have knocked me over with a feather when I got this news. It's a really silly award, but it's still cool as hell to me. Chronic Rift (http://chronicrift.com/) used to be a NYC public access cable TV show about SF books, movies, and TV. They recently came back from the dead as a podcast and webpage. the original show was a popular cult-audience sort of thing and while they were serious about SF they were not snooty, serious people. In their new incarnation they are still really silly people who just love SF. And...

Underground has been nominated for Best Novel at Chronic Rift's reintroduced Roundtable Awards (the prize used to be a pizza box spacer--you know those little plastic "tables" that hold up the lid). I'm in really incredible company. I don't expect to win this--not with that group nipping my heels--but it's still really cool to me.

Best Novel:
Little Brother by Cory Doctorow
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Free Fall by Laura Anne Gilman
Underground by Kat Richardson
Galaxy Blues by Allen M. Steele

You can see the complete list of nominations at SFScope (http://sfscope.com/2009/03/the-chronic-rifts-roundtable-a.html)

I'm running around going "Squeeeee!" and flapping my hands in the air in excitement. I've never been nominated for anything as a writer. This is totally exciting to me.
