I'm amazed the ferret and cat don't try to eat one another.

They got along very well in a grumpy-old-man-putting-up-with-young-whippersnappers sort of way. Alas, the cat went to CatHeaven about 18 months ago. Since both are predators, they have similar play styles and the ferrets have very tough skin. And the cat thought they were kittens, we suspect. He would never hit them with his claws out and he was known to hold them down and wash them with an air of disgust (as if they were just so dirty and he couldn't understand how they got they way and why weren't they doing something about it?)

The image of a cat holding down a struggling ferret and grumpily cleaning him will inspire spontaneous fits of laughter in me for a few days now. Thanks.

Well, that's Californians for ya--can't tell a possum from a housecat.

(says the woman who was born and raised in Southern California.)
