View Full Version : Football pool for this weekend...

So I jumped in on a huge pool at my wife's work.

Averages about $1,000 payout per week with a $5 buy-in. No winner last week so we are looking at around two-grand, give or take, as the stakes. I hat to buy-in at $10 since I dind't play last week. Still. Good return if I can manage to pull it off. All winners split the pot, of course.

I won once in this pool last year, but there were 3 winners, so I only got about $300. Still, not a bad take.

The way this one plays out, you pick any five teams to at least make the spread as listed on the sheet. You need to go 5-for-5 to win.

There are some tough choices this week. But I hope you all can cross your fingers and/or help root on my picks. :)

I ended up taking the following:

Tonight:
Pittsburg at -3 (over Cleveland)

Sunday:
NY Giants +3 (over Carolina)
New England -3 (over Miami)
Green Bay +7 (over San Francisco)
San Digo -3 (over Denver)

Now I'm off to go check on the status of the game tonight to see if I even need to bother stressing through Sunday afternoon. ;)

Pray for me!

You don't. Not even close.

Yeah. Way sweet. One down, four to go.

Unfortunately, the Steelers game was the easiest pick of them all. I've got a few nail-biters ahead of me for Sunday. That's for sure.

New England has their work cut out for them to cover. Down 6-0 in the 3rd and doesn't really look like they're getting much of anything going vs. Miami.

I'd be more worried about the Green Bay game. Frank gore has been running on everyone and Green bay has been stoping nobody.

It's not going to matter if NE doesn't outscore Miami by 17 in the last quarter and change. It's 13-0 Dolphins right now, about 2 minutes left in the 3rd...

Well that changes things a bit. My post came early in the third. I had expected the Pats to get something going against the fish.

AAAAARRGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Effing New England!!! I hate, Hate, HATE them!

How the hell does a 9-2 team with a stellar December record and shining hopes for the play-offs get blanked by a 5-7 team?!?!?

I feel like writing Tom Brady, and the rest of those hacks, a strongly worded letter demanding they send me a check for the winnings I should have coming to me today. The pot was up to $2,545! Money I should be rolling around in right now in feverish glee!

So instead I hit 4 for 5. My other 4 picks came in with plenty of points to spare over the line. But no, the Pats had to phone-in their game.

Ugh. I so HATE that.

Stoopid Patriots!

As for the comments about the Pack...

I forsaw (rightly so in hindsight) a decent game for Green Bay. San Fran is ranked something like 30th against the run. That meant Green and his line could really pound the ball. Which in turn takes the heat off Favre so he can open it up. Good times.

I knew Delhomme was hurt and Weinke sucks. The Giants needed a win badly. So I called that game right too.

San Diego had my back, taking it to Denver's rookie quarterback and letting LT do the rest of the talking.

I'd already bagged Pittsburg on Thursday.

So I had it in the bag. All was good. Except for those slacker, lame-asses from New England who looked like a high school junior varsity team.

With the new pool numbers due in a few hours, any obvious choices?

Insights or perspectives for this weeks games very welcome.

What are the lines in question? I have no idea, typically I'm much more focused on individual player performances for fantasy football purposes.

I have heard it's going to be crazy windy in Seattle tonight. Might be worth betting an under there. If I knew what the under was, I could give more concrete advice...

Pittsburg +3 vs. Carolina
Washington +7 vs. NO
Jacksonville +3 vs. Tenn
Tampa Bay +10 vs. Chicago
Philly +7 vs. NYG
Detroit +7 Vs. Green Bay

Of the faves, I think I like Chicago and NO the best. I think Dallas and the Jets win their games, so I guess they'd be the underdogs I'd pick. I don't have much in the way of analysis on these picks...

High winds in Seattle might mean a defensive game and a cover for SF, maybe.

Picks I think I'm going with:

Dallas +3 at Atlanta.

NYJ at Minnesota -3

Washington at NO -7

Detroit at Green Bay -7

St Louis at Oakland +7

I know I know. I'm taking Oakland. (Shhh, don't tell anyone...) But at +7, I'm hoping they lose the game by 6 points exactly. ;)

Ouch! Looks like I hit only 2 for 5 this weekend.

Painful. :bawling:

At least my Packers had my back.

Ah well. This is the cosmic punishment I get for actually taking Oakland. I deserved it. :spank:
