View Full Version : Conspiracy Theory in New England

OK, I've got to laugh at this.
The NFL moved the New York vs. Miami game to 4:15. And people in New England are up in arms.
Why?
The thought process is that at 1:00 the Jets don't know what will happen in the Baltimore vs. Jacksonville (4:15) game, or the Pats / Bills game. They will have to play to win because they still have some playoff hope. (They win the wildcard with a win and Baltimore loss, and win the East with a win and Patriot's loss.)
At 4:15, if the Patriot's win, and if Baltimore goes up big early on Jacksonville, New York will know that they can't go to the playoffs, and will either:
1. Stop trying.
2. Actively throw the game to screw over the Patriots.
I think that's pretty ludicrious, and as much as I hate Mangina, I don't think even he will sink this low.

People calling up sports radio, talking about how the NFL has it in for the Patriots.

That's because you don't live in or around Boston, which has this "Kid brother" complex with New York. They figure New York is favored because of it's size, in a "Mom (The Commissioner) always loved you best" sort of way.

i know i've heard people say that, but it's always been new yorkers or others in the region that i've heard say it.

What do you mean actively? Have you seen his decision making process since being 8-3? I'm sure he can lose the game all on his own....

Look, all in all I'd take Boston over New York every day. I don't hate New York, but there's a feeling of History in Boston that, IMO, NY will never have.
But NY is bigger, does have more money, and is superior to Boston in some aspects, including (until recently) success in the two most important sports.
That bred resentment.

Yeah, I'm calling bullshit to that opinion. NY has its own rich history Boston will never have.

carm: i believe BB is referring to boston having already been a major city at the time of the revolution and the attendant history (boston tea party, boston massacre, john adams, etc). and to be fair (assuming that i'm right), that's a legitimate point, if you ask me.
BB: i can understand the resentment angle. :>

That could be and would be valid. And if we were in GE&R I could get that feeling.
But when said in the sports arena, taking about the "kid brother complex" a couple posts up, its easy to take also as sports history.....which of couse is BS.

Call what you want. But tell me, what role did NY play in the founding of the country? Did Pilgrims land there? The revolution start there? Let us all remember the Long Island Tea Party.
Seriously dude, I'm not trying to insult New York here. But give Boston it's props.

Its no problem giving boston its props for history. *I* thought you were talking sports history, which isnt a hard stretch to assume considering we're talking football in the thunderdome....

Ah. No foul then. I was more talking about Boston's inferiority complex in general, and then how it pertained to sports.
