EDIT -- The first two posts in this thread came over from the main Drake Manor thread.

Jocelin carefully ties the katana in place at her side and checks to make sure its loose in its scabbard, then heads outside

"Jack, why are we going outside? Leo isnt being crazily heroic to get us out of the way to take on the basement full of monsters all by himself is he?"

SD Anderson
10-12-2008, 06:13 PM
"If Drake is our killer, she's got us where she wants us, in her prepared lair. She supposedly sired a full brood of kindred to do her dirty work for her. If we stay inside, whatever trap they prep goes off without a hitch."

"We're a spoiling maneuver for the trap. We're here to encounter somebody here force their hand before they're ready, give the others their best chance to react to what is going on before choice is denied to them."

Jack reaches into the oversized trenchcoat and hands Jocelin a can of insect fogger. "We avoid melee if we can. It's time consuming and will probably keep us from getting back to the others. This stuff here is both flammable and covers an area at range, If you can operate a cigarette lighter and have one, soak them down then light them up.

Jack stops, dials his cell, calling Dallas and getting one of the Prince's aides if not the Prince himself. "This is Jack. I am patrolling the perimeter of Drake Manor with Jocellin searching for a band of intruders stated to be here by Anneke. I am adjusting volume to max gain. Please stay on the line and record if you can, what occurs. If there is something going on here, we may need an audio witness."

"Could you hold these for a second?" he asks Jocelin, giving her his phone, pistol (which has a modified trigger) and the cell.

A few moments later he's in ape form, which includes an empty belt holder suited for the pistol. Retrieving his things, the now undersized trenchoat goes back on and the other items go to appropriate places.

In addition to the odd trigger on the gun, which seems suitable for use by human and ape finger, up close Jocelin can see that Jack is wearing a Gorilla suit over his ape form.

I'm going to move the most recent Jocelin and Jack posts into this thread in a bit.

Those of you who are outside or can see outside will see Black Cat. It looks like she talking to someone. Might be Bianca.

"Oh, fun! A flambe on this coil of existence to remind them of that which awaits them as their eternal reward"

Jocelin also gets out her pistol and straps it in place for easy access as well as her sword, since apparently discrete went out the window

Jocelin also gives a friendly wave to Black Cat

Detritus

Black Cat waves back. She and her companion are maybe 20-25 yards distant from the front of the manor house, BTW.

All of you who can see outside notice that there is now a second car in the driveway (there was only one when you arrived), which you may or may not consider a bit weird since you didn't hear it it pull in.

Jack will activate Sweet Whispers, and be able to speak to humans. He'll tell his phone connection. "We have a new arrival. [Car descripton and license if it can be seen] in the Driveway. It arrived without being heard. Also present are local Kindred who may or may not be with the car. [He'll identify those he can name, describe the others.]

To Jocelin: "If you want to talk to them, circle a bit to your right as you approach. If they turn out to be hostile, duck backwards and to your right. That should keep you out of my line of fire."

Kalzazz
10-13-2008, 02:11 PM

"I think things might be starting to pick up inside," says Black Cat, and you see she has some sort of electronic doodad that she's listening to.

"Last chance to check the roof," says Bianca. She makes a single flapping with her arms and then, to your astonishment, begins to lift into the air.

Jocelin if she can will just try to look at the roof and not land on it

Detritus

Jocelin's attempt to steer doesn't work anyways. She continues to float upwards slowly until she is about 25 feet off the ground. She doesn't see anything on the roof when she looks in that direction.

Bianca starts to fly faster, and it's clear that she is in control of her movements. She moves in such a way to keep Jocelin between herself and Jack.

"I'm not sure your faith was strong enough to give you control over your own movements, Joss," says Bianca. "Just be cool for now, though."

Right after this, Jocelin does catch a bit of motion coming from the direction of the manor, as a single page seems just to materialize. It moves as if carried along in a strong breeze before diving down and landing at Jack's feet. The message is comprised of large block letters cut out of magazines and reads:

SURRENDER
OR PERISH

When Black Cat sees this, she says, "Gun. Ground. N..." and the last word is cut off as dead silence permeates the area, although it was clear that Black Cat mouthed the word "Now" when she was cut off.

A note on positioning, Jack, Jocelin, Bianca, and Black Cat are all within a 12-yard diameter cylinder, although Jocelin and Bianca are presently ~ 10-20 yards off the ground at the moment. Leo is on the porch, about 35 yards away from Jack, who is nearest to the building.

Jocelin's happy thoughts about her angelic flying status are rather unkindly interupted, the new status quo doesnt seem so fun, so she decides to do what they obviously sent an Anarch along to do, draw fire and throw some chaos into the mix!

Jocelin goes for her gun

I beg to differ about the Shout of "Ambush". Her power may negate the gun but, Jack is in Ape form and as noted when Jocelin frenzied, he had to use Silent Whispers to speak human. This is a Discipline vs discipline situation. If she doesn't win the contest, my alert goes out.

Negative. As long as Sweet Whispers is vocalized, it's rendered mute by what's in play. Or, if my rules tell me otherwise, I'll change the ruling as it now stands.

It also says that it works via eye contact with a specific animal, so even though I'm technically right, only Black Cat hears me...

OK, fine, Black Cat hears a telepathic scream of "AMBUSH!" from Jack. She already knows, of course. ;)

I have to check a few things before turning the crank. This would be a nice time for Leo to decide to do something, perhaps.

Detritus

OK, Jocelin does the very opposite of being cool as she whips out a pistol and tears off a couple of rounds towards the manor house. Nobody hears the gun shots but Leo does hear the bullets as they whiz by him several feet to his left (assuming he's facing the commotion outside) and impact the building.

I need at least three rolls for Jack -- a Guns roll, a Perception roll, and a Defense roll. The Perception roll determines whether the Defense roll is Active or Passive.

All players who are outside (or inside for that matter) are free to generate a series of rolls. I'll roll a d6 to randomly select one of the first six rolls on your list and continue using this method (replacing used rolls with rolls further down your list) of roll selection until I run out.

Just as Jack begins to shoot at Black Cat, he notices a gout of dark liquid about to rain down on him from basically straight above his head. He dodges instinctively, and as it happens, that has the effect of leading his SMG rounds directly into Black Cat's movement. Multiple rounds hit her, and she staggers to the ground, momentarily stunned.

Meanwhile, the gout of liquid dissolves the right sleeve of Jack's costume, and even a bit of his fur, and then eats a hole several inches into the ground just where Jack was standing.

Jack hears the following in his head in a strangely familiar voice that he can't quite place:

Through the dark of moonless night
The monkey longs to see
One chants out between two worlds
Fire walk with me

An orange streak approaches Jack (who needs to make another dodge roll).

The 8 should sucessfully dodge. If I spotted the guy who was with Cat, Jack will take a shot at him. Trying to shoot the Obfuscated vampire floating above him is a waste of time. If i can't spot the other guy, I'll put a few more rounds into Black Cat.

If I do spot the guy Jack sings:

"Round and round the sammy manor, the ape guy hunts the caster, the caster thinks he's nice safe & sound, SPLAT goes the caster..."

You don't see anyone besides your allies, Black Cat, and Bianca, although if you wish, you can sing your reply, the communication goes both ways.

When the streak of orange goes by, it hits the ground several yards away from you in a burst of flame 5 yards wide. You feel the ground shake but don't hear a sound. Jocelin does hear the explosion.

You can both do your actions, and then I need Rötschreck rolls for both Jocelin and Jack. Jack can take his shots at Black Cat first. Leo is far enough away right now that the explosion is merely mildly unnerving.

No, the gun still doesn't make any sound. You manage to put one more round into Black Cat. She is hurting, but not out of commission.

Jocelin isn't going anywhere but up. She's about 35 feet off the ground right now. It's starting to get to be a pretty long fall, even for a vampire. I am willing to stipulate that Jocelin makes her Fright Check with no problem even without a roll.

Jack's unfortunate choice to head back towards the manor necessitates that he make a Passive Defense roll.

Jocelin, perhaps a bit confused about who's allegiance lies where, watches as Bianca flies down to tend to Black Cat.

Jack, who has left a flying, Obfuscated Assamite out of his calculations, receives a spray of the dark liquid that he just managed to avoid a short time ago square in the back. It eats through his costume, which seems to wick the fluid to the front side of his body. He suffers grievous burns from the shoulder down all along his body, and emits a wordless bellow of pain before passing out.

Leo, rooted to the spot in horror as the scene unfolds, barely notices a flying Anvil and Rake alighting to either side of him. Anvil stakes him through the heart after he lands.

At this point, Lucian emerges seemingly from thin air.

"He should not have turned his back on her," he says to Jocelin, but without the Cajun accent he assayed the last time you heard him. Jocelin doesn't see any women other than Black Cat or Bianca, but is sure that neither of them was the source of the acidic blast that has taken Jack out of commission. He then spots the SURRENDER OR PERISH note and makes a lifting motion with his hand. The note flies up towards Jocelin until it hits her square in the face.

=================

In mechanical terms, Jack just took 52 points of Aggravated Damage, thanks to some crazy-high rolling on 12d6. I'm going to rule his costume is worth 1 DR, so he has 12 DR total right now. That still leaves 40 Aggro that gets through his DR. That brings him exactly down to -HT in his Ape form, according to my calculations. The pure shock of the damage occurring all at once has knocked him into a quasi-torporous state, but it's not quite Torpor as such in the RAW. I'll get back to this some time soon, I hope.

Is Jocelin going to heed the note this time around? :satanlook:

OOC - Rake is surprisingly good at Auspex for a Brujah, so it would have been tough for Leo to give him the slip, even with Obfuscate active. I'm going to say that the die is cast on this one.

"A wise choice," says Lucian, who makes a lowering motion with his hand. Jocelin begins a slow descent towards the ground. Just before she reaches the ground, she looks down in surprise at the stake point protruding from her chest before losing consciousness.

"Why did you do that, Kalinda?" an outraged Bianca asks.

"We had to neutralize the Justicar's agents," Kalinda replies.

"She was already neutralized!"

"Were you willing to take that chance? I've seen how cornered Brujah fight, in case you've forgotten."

"We didn't even have a chance to ask her if she had taken a drink inside. She could have been on our side! You just did it because you were sloppy with the ape-man. How could you miss a fucking ape while flying silent and concealed?!"

"Do you think I would miss her?" Kalinda asks, motioning towards Black Cat. "Shall we give it a try?

"You wouldn't!"

"Ladies," interjects Lucian, "I love a good catfight as much as the next man, but we have more pressing matters to attend to. Save it until after we have raised an Archbishop."

The two women back down from each other, Bianca seething, Kalinda coolly indifferent, as Lucian's words bring them back to their senses.
