Here are the matchups:
Wily Corn Trolls (4-1) - 0.0
Trifecta Wookies (2-3) - 0.0
Neanderthals (3-2) - 0.0
2nd helping skillets (3-2) - 0.0
Zohan's Posse (2-3) - 0.0
Demolition (3-2) - 0.0
Fighting Friars (4-1) - 0.0
Tribbles (1-4) - 0.0
SnakeBitten (3-2) - 0.0
Fallen Angels (0-5) - 0.0
This week's marquee matchup pits Neanderthals vs. 2nd helping skillets, a pair of 3-2 teams looking to strengthen their playoff positioning as we near the halfway point of the season. Yahoo projections gave Neanderthals a 2-point edge on Wednesday, but that spread has gone up to nearly 5 points with the news of Marques Colston's return and Carson Palmer's absence and the respective effects of this news on Drew Brees and TJ Championship's projections.
Neanderthals' strength is their backfield (SJax, Slaton, TJones), which is strong enough to keep Julius Jones and his juicy matchup with the decimated Packers' D on the bench. Skillets counter with a WR trio (B. Marshall, S. Moss, Housh) which is perhaps the strongest such group in the league. And there is the lingering question of whether Peyton will finally break out for the Skillets, but his battered O-line vs. the Ravens' D makes this a speculative proposition at best in Week 6.
There's no rest for the two-time defending champs, as the Wookies draw #2 Wily Corn Trolls the week after drawing the #1 Fighting Friars. This game features the top three RBs in the Yahoo Experts' Rankings (http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/nfl/news?slug=ys-expertpoll-08week6-rb). The Wookies will no doubt be kicking themselves if Ronnie Brown plays a big role in a WCT victory this week.
Fighting Friars look to move to 5-1 at the expense of Tribbles. Will Michael Turner continue his feast-or-famine ways and come up small versus the heretofore stout run D of the Bears? Will Chansi Stuckey represent a significant dropoff from Hines Ward at WR this week? The Tribbles had best hope so if they want a fighting chance against the #1 team in the league through five weeks.
Will Fallen Angels finally break into the win column this week? They face an uneven SnakeBitten squad that has a winning record despite being the only two-time winner of the Power Wank award. And can Demolition hold off a strong challenge from Zohan's Posse? After an 0-3 start, the Posse has scored the most points over the past two weeks, and look to even their record with another strong showing this week. Stay tuned...

1130 am update as of halftime of the Bears-Falcons game, active players in parentheses:
Wily Corn Trolls (4-1) - 13.8 (All Day, Ronnie Brown, Greg Olsen, Cotchery, NOS D/ST)
Trifecta Wookies (2-3) - 30.6 (Mason, Portis, Colston, TBB D/ST)
Neanderthals (3-2) - 39.6 (Brees, A. Bryant, Slaton, SJax, T. Jones, Daniels, Gould, Carolina D/ST)
2nd helping skillets (3-2) - 48.0 (Peyton, S. Moss, Graham, P. Thomas, Housh, Cooley, Minnesota D/ST)
Zohan's Posse (2-3) - 25.2 (Favre, Andre Johnson, L. Coles, Dallas Clark, Chicago D/ST)
Demolition (3-2) - 5.2 (Campbell, Muhammad, J. Stewart, Suisham)
Fighting Friars (4-1) - 24.5 (Wayne, Stuckey, R. Bush, M. Turner, Fargas)
Tribbles (1-4) - 7.3 (Delhomme, Roddy White, Addai, Shiancoe)
SnakeBitten (3-2) - 11.4 (Stevonne Smith, Forte, McGahee, Longwell)
Fallen Angels (0-5) - 0.0 (Fasano)
Peyton Manning and Thomas Jones have both woken up. Joseph Addai got knocked out of the Colts game on their second drive. Neither Adrian Peterson nor Ronnie Brown set the world on fire in the first half. WCT will need that to turn around if they hope to have a fighting chance this week.

I just found out Colston was a scratch vs. Oakland. I heard he was going to play as recently as last night. Sorry about that, it wasn't an attempt at deception.

Ricky Williams TD run, Calvin Johnson TD catch on my bench, the stars are starting to align for the WCT to be the "one of those weeks" teams this week.

Well, that was a crazy-ass finish in Atlanta. A Bears TD and a Falcons FG in the last 11 seconds. Subtract a point from whichever team has the Chicago D/ST going from the 110 pm update:
Wily Corn Trolls (4-1) - 43.4 (All Day, Ronnie Brown, Greg Olsen, Cotchery, NOS D/ST)
Trifecta Wookies (2-3) - 49.6 (Mason, Portis, Colston, TBB D/ST)
Neanderthals (3-2) - 88.4 (Brees, A. Bryant, Slaton, SJax, T. Jones, Daniels, Gould, Carolina D/ST)
2nd helping skillets (3-2) - 65.0 (Peyton, S. Moss, Graham, P. Thomas, Housh, Cooley, Minnesota D/ST)
Zohan's Posse (2-3) - 45.7 (Favre, Andre Johnson, L. Coles, Dallas Clark, Chicago D/ST)
Demolition (3-2) - 17.3 (Campbell, Muhammad, J. Stewart, Suisham)
Fighting Friars (4-1) - 41.5 (Wayne, Stuckey, R. Bush, M. Turner, Fargas)
Tribbles (1-4) - 16.8 (Delhomme, Roddy White, Addai, Shiancoe)
SnakeBitten (3-2) - 32.3 (Stevonne Smith, Forte, McGahee, Longwell)
Fallen Angels (0-5) - 0.5 (Fasano)
I'm pretty sure Portis ended up outscoring All Day and Ronnie Brown combined. Brees and Thomas Jones absolutely blew up for Neanderthals, so they are looking pretty good, as neither they nor the Skillets have much roster left.

It's all good. I was looking and seeing the same thing last night myself.

It's a comedy of errors between Warner and Romo right now, both guys are sitting at about -2 points at the moment.
EDIT -- Warner -4.4, Romo -5.0 with about 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter.
Wasn't the Cowboys-Cardinals game supposed to be a shootout?

245 pm update, just after Cowboys-Cardinals go into halftime:
Wily Corn Trolls (4-1) - 42.6 (Warner, Fitzgerald)
Trifecta Wookies (2-3) - 54.7 (Romo, E. Royal, F. Taylor)
Neanderthals (3-2) - 88.5 (Engram)
2nd helping skillets (3-2) - 70.5 (B. Marshall, Folk)
Zohan's Posse (2-3) - 54.2 (Barber, Crosby)
Demolition (3-2) - 37.6 (Bruce, Buckhalter, Philly D/ST)
Fighting Friars (4-1) - 59.7 (Cutler, D. Lee, JAX D/ST)
Tribbles (1-4) - 31.9 (TO, MJD, Felix Jones, Akers)
SnakeBitten (3-2) - 53.5 (Garrard, John Carlson, GBP D/ST)
Fallen Angels (0-5) - 39.4 (McNabb, Jennings, Breaston, Gore, Pittman, Edge, Dallas D/ST)
WCT actually went backwards despite having the Warner-Fitzgerald hookup going for them. This seems like kind of a low-scoring week, although I haven't checked to see who is going for everyone during the late games. I guess there's still a half to go in the afternoon games...

There's a 13.5-point swing in play for the WCT with the disputed TD catch by Fitzgerald...
EDIT -- WCT denied!
EDIT2 -- Second time's a charm for the Warner-Fitz hookup.

Well, that last few game minutes of the Cowboys-Cards game was pretty fucked up.
Here are your scores as of 450 pm:
Wily Corn Trolls (4-1) - 73.1 (Warner, Fitzgerald)
Trifecta Wookies (2-3) - 79.0 (Romo, E. Royal, F. Taylor)
Neanderthals (3-2) - 88.5 (Engram)
2nd helping skillets (3-2) - 80.5 (B. Marshall, Folk)
Zohan's Posse (2-3) - 78.9 (Barber, Crosby)
Demolition (3-2) - 65.7 (Bruce, Buckhalter, Philly D/ST)
Fighting Friars (4-1) - 68.3 (Cutler, D. Lee, JAX D/ST)
Tribbles (1-4) - 62.4 (TO, MJD, Felix Jones, Akers)
SnakeBitten (3-2) - 70.1 (Garrard, John Carlson, GBP D/ST)
Fallen Angels (0-5) - 90.4 (McNabb, Jennings, Breaston, Gore, Pittman, Edge, Dallas D/ST)
I believe the Neanderthals-Skillets game is a(n) (unofficial) final. Everybody else has at least one player going either tonight or tomorrow night.

You're still in it. It's pretty much a toss-up between the Friars and Tribbles at this point. You're happy that Gostkowski missed a 48-yard FG attempt in the first half tonight.

Tribbles are very happy that the Pats went for it on 4th-and-goal, and even happier that SD got a sack to turn the Pats over on downs.
EDIT -- And that TD pass to Gates is huge for the Wookies. Now Braylon is probably going to have to score tomorrow night for the WCT to pull out the win.
Detritus
10-13-2008, 12:29 AM
I underestimated the scoring of Nate Kaeding after Gates' TD. Braylon doesn't necessarily have to get into the end zone for the WCT to pull out the W, but he does have to do something tomorrow night. Here are the scores after SNF:
Wily Corn Trolls (4-1) - 85.1 (Kaeding, Braylon/MNF)
Trifecta Wookies (2-3) - 88.0 (Gates)
Neanderthals (3-2) - 88.5
2nd helping skillets (3-2) - 80.5 Final (unofficial)
Zohan's Posse (2-3) - 81.4 (R. Moss, Jacobs/MNF)
Demolition (3-2) - 65.7 (Jamal Lewis/MNF)
Fighting Friars (4-1) - 73.3 (Gostkowski)
Tribbles (1-4) - 76.4 (SDC D/ST) Final (unofficial)
SnakeBitten (3-2) - 86.1 (Welker, Tomlinson)
Fallen Angels (0-5) - 90.4 (Carney/MNF)
Fallen Angels should get their first W, and Zohan's Posse are looking pretty good for evening their record at 3-3.
EDIT -- I gotta say, this is the closest I can ever recall seeing the scores result in perfect equipartition of points. A 25-point spread from 1st to 10th and a 13-point spread from 2nd to 9th. Six scores between 80.5 and 88.5 right now...

Overnight score corrections:
WCT have 85.0 points, not 85.1.
Demolition have 65.6 points, not 65.7.
Fallen Angels have 92.9 points, not 90.4.
There's a small but certainly not negligible chance that we could see a tie this week, if Braylon Edwards scores exactly 3 points. Then WCT-Wookies end up tied at 88.

Unofficial final scores and updated records:
Wily Corn Trolls (5-1) - 104.5
Trifecta Wookies (2-4) - 88.0
Neanderthals (4-2) - 88.5
2nd helping skillets (3-3) - 80.5
Zohan's Posse (3-3) - 91.8
Demolition (3-3) - 78.2
Fighting Friars (4-2) - 73.3
Tribbles (2-4) - 76.4
SnakeBitten (3-3) - 86.1
Fallen Angels (1-5) - 94.9
Stud Braylon showed up tonight, and hopefully Dud Braylon is a distant memory. The Wookies were mortally wounded by two inactive starters (Colston, Royal) and a negative-scoring effort from Fred Taylor this week.

Your all-play record right now is 27-27. I'll remind you that you won in Week 1 with less than 70 points by drawing a team that scored 31.6 points, and that all 10 teams scored at least 73 points this week. So, 3-3 for "should be" if we're counting both good luck and bad for the Wookies. ;)

Not a horrid week, and looking at the break down, I'm going to say it's just one of those weeks.
I'm still waiting for Parz to explain how RB are more consistant than WR though. (Looks at Turner and Bush.)
(I usually kick myself for leaving points on the table, but would anyone have started Ryan over Cutler?)
Detritus

Although not that great, 73.3 points isn't terrible by any stretch. I'm pretty sure every team in the league has at least one week lower than that, except possibly Zohan's Posse.
