Here are the matchups:

Wily Corn Trolls (3-1) - 0.0
SnakeBitten (3-1) - 0.0

Neanderthals (3-1) - 0.0
Demolition (2-2) - 0.0

Zohan's Posse (1-3) - 0.0
Tribbles (1-3) - 0.0

Fighting Friars (3-1) - 0.0
Trifecta Wookies (2-2) - 0.0

2nd helping skillets (2-2) - 0.0
Fallen Angels (0-4) - 0.0

This week's marquee matchup finds WCT and Snakebitten squaring off to see who will go 4-1 and remain no worse than tied for the best record in the league. After a 31.6-point crater in Week 1, Snakebitten has scored 93.6, 90.2, and 91.7 in Weeks 2-4. Of course, if you eliminate WCT's 72.1-point performance from Week 3, their remaining weekly totals (97.9, 123.5, 109.7) are all better than Snakebitten's best to date. The contest features the top two picks in the draft, LaDainian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson, both of whom figure to have relatively easy matchups (SD vs. Miami, Minny vs. NO).

Neanderthals and Fighting Friars also have the chance to move to 4-1, but in order to do it they will have to get past the two-time defending champs (Wookies) and the high-scoring team through four weeks (Demolition) respectively. 2nd helping skillets look to hand Fallen Angels their fifth straight loss to start the season, and one of Zohan's Posse or Tribbles will fall to 1-4, which will leave the loser two games out of the final playoff slot.

Will the five-team mush pile at 2-1 after Week 3 reestablish itself at 3-2? Will there be three teams at 4-1 beginning to separate themselves a bit from the rest of the league? Will Fallen Angels finally get off the schneid this week?! Keep an eye on this thread to find out.

Here are the 1135 am PDT updates, as of halftime of Dolphins-Chargers. This time I decided to put currently active players in parentheses, instead of players yet to play.

SnakeBitten (3-1) - 36.6 (Rivers, Stevonne Smith, A. Gonzalez, Forte, Grant, J. Carlson, LT, Baltimore D/ST)

Zohan's Posse got 66 from 5 guys in the first half time frame of the early games. That's even more than WCT's second-half early-game performance last week.

Also, I just gotta say, Ronnie Brown is looking strong in the first half vs. the Chargers.

Did you guys see the circus catch by Chicago's #86 Booker. Wow. Look for it on the high light reel.

1 pm update, while Peyton was in the middle of kneeling out the game in Houston:

Wily Corn Trolls (3-1) - 26.5 (Calvin Johnson, Chris Johnson, Ronnie Brown, Kaeding)
SnakeBitten (3-1) - 51.5 (Rivers, Stevonne Smith, A. Gonzalez, Forte, Grant, J. Carlson, LT, Baltimore D/ST)

Neanderthals (3-1) - 54.8 (Harrison, Slaton, O. Daniels, J. Jones, Gould, Tennesse D/ST)
Demolition (2-2) - 53.5 (Campbell, Muhammad, Stewart, Westbrook, Witten, Chambers, NYG D/ST)

Zohan's Posse (1-3) - 90.5 (Eli, Andre Johnson, Jacobs, D. Clark, Chicago D/ST)
Tribbles (1-3) - 62.3 (Delhomme, Roddy White, Addai, Bironas, SD D/ST)

Fighting Friars (3-1) - 79.6 (Wayne, Turner, Donald Lee, DeAngelo Williams, Kasay)
Trifecta Wookies (2-2) - 28.2 (Mason, Portis, LenDale, Gates, Bowe)

2nd helping skillets (2-2) -37.1 (Peyton, S. Moss, Cooley)
Fallen Angels (0-4) - 35.0 (McNabb, Jennings, Fasano, Carney)

DeAngelo Williams comes up with a hat trick for the Friars. The WCT are wishing they had gotten cute and subbed in Rodgers at QB, who has a hat trick of his own on the WCT bench.

245 pm update. An active and efficient first half from Kurt Warner (including a short TD pass to Fitzgerald) has moved WCT in front of SnakeBitten by a slim 3-point margin. Demolition have also rallied on the strength of a big first half by Jason Witten:

Wily Corn Trolls (3-1) - 54.8 (Warner, Fitzgerald, Scheffler)
SnakeBitten (3-1) - 51.5 (no players active)

Neanderthals (3-1) - 58.8 (Antonio Bryant, Selvin Young)
Demolition (2-2) - 66.3 (Witten, Lindell)

Zohan's Posse (1-3) - 109.3 (R. Moss, Barber)
Tribbles (1-3) - 73.0 (TO, Felix Jones)

Fighting Friars (3-1) - 92.3 (Cutler, NE D/ST)
Trifecta Wookies (2-2) - 54.8 (Romo, E. Royal, Prater, TB D/ST)

2nd helping skillets (2-2) -52.1 (B. Marshall, Lynch, Graham, Housh, Folk)
Fallen Angels (0-4) - 70.3 (Breaston, Gore, Pittman, Edge, Dallas D/ST)

430 pm update:

Wily Corn Trolls (3-1) - 78.4 (Warner, Fitzgerald, Scheffler)
SnakeBitten (3-1) - 51.5 (no players active)

Neanderthals (3-1) - 62.8 (Antonio Bryant, Selvin Young)
Demolition (2-2) - 72.8 (Witten, Lindell)

Zohan's Posse (1-3) - 113.4 (R. Moss, Barber)
Tribbles (1-3) - 85.8 (TO, Felix Jones)

Fighting Friars (3-1) - 109.1 (Cutler, NE D/ST)
Trifecta Wookies (2-2) - 67.6 (Romo, E. Royal, Prater, TB D/ST)

2nd helping skillets (2-2) -77.7 (B. Marshall, Lynch, Graham, Housh, Folk)
Fallen Angels (0-4) - 80.4 (Breaston, Gore, Pittman, Edge, Dallas D/ST)

Wookies are out of roster at this point, and WCT still have Peterson and the Pitt D/ST vs. Ryan Longwell for SnakeBitten, so there will be at least two 4-1 teams after this week's games. Whether Neanderthals make it a third depends on Drew Brees outscoring Santonio Holmes by at least 10.1 points.

Meanwhile, if the Minnesota D/ST manages to score at least three points tomorrow, then the Skillets will keep the Angels winless in '08.

I'm going to put up a Sunday halftime (+4 minutes) update to list all the players who are active right now. The update after the Steelers-Jags game is completed will list players who will play tomorrow night.

Wily Corn Trolls (3-1) - 87.4 (Pitt D/ST)
SnakeBitten (3-1) - 51.5 (no players active)

Neanderthals (3-1) - 62.8 (no players active)
Demolition (2-2) - 76.3 (S. Homes)

Zohan's Posse (1-3) - 115.4 (Scobee)
Tribbles (1-3) - 103.1 (MJD, H. Miller)

Fighting Friars (3-1) - 113.1 (H. Ward)
Trifecta Wookies (2-2) - 67.6 (roster has completed play)

2nd helping skillets (2-2) -77.7 (no players active)
Fallen Angels (0-4) - 80.4 (roster has completed play)

Tribbles are creeping up on it, although they probably need a duplicate of the first half when both Miller and MJD scored, and even then, the Posse has Lance Moore in reserve tomorrow night.

Oh well, the Tribbles are still managing to put points on the board, an improvement!

Here are the scores heading into MNF. Players listed play tomorrow night.

Wily Corn Trolls (3-1) - 87.4 (All Day)
SnakeBitten (3-1) - 51.5 (Longwell)

Neanderthals (3-1) - 62.8 (Brees)
Demolition (2-2) - 77.8

Zohan's Posse (1-3) - 116.4 (Lance Moore)
Tribbles (1-3) - 106.8

Fighting Friars (3-1) - 122.6 (Bush)
Trifecta Wookies (2-2) - 67.6

2nd helping skillets (2-2) -77.7 (Minnesota D/ST)
Fallen Angels (0-4) - 80.4

Brees needs 15.1 points to lift Neanderthals over Demolition, who left a big 22.6 points net on the bench with Campbell starting over Roethlisberger.

Minnesota should in all likelihood manage the three points they need to rally the Skillets over the Angels. I can't recall ever seeing a D/ST held to only 2 points in the three years and change we've been running this league.

Fighting Friars presently have a 6-point edge in aggregate scoring over WCT in the tiebreaker for top of the standings after Week 5. The Friars have Reggie Bush going tomorrow night, and the Trolls fire up Adrian Peterson. The Friars have an outside shot at the season-high single-week point total if Bush can manage to put up 24 points. Or, Lance Moore could drop 30 points on everyone's heads and lift the Posse to high score this week.

Zoinks. 2-3 sucks ballz.

.7 fucking points.

/smolder

Anyway... I have 2 suggestions for next year:

1) We should use ESPN. Live scoring is free. Customizable leagues are free. Live drafting is quick simple, easy, and free. (If we used it. Which I would not suggest unless life allowed it then.)

2) We should dump the flat 1 pt per 20 return yards. The vast majority of the return yards this gives are for kickoff returns. A D/ST only gets a kickoff return once a game normally that doesn't involve having given up points. Unless the opposing kicker is Long Leg McStudmuffin any return specialist is going to get back to the 20 and net 1 point.

For giving up a score. IMHO that's dumb.

My counter suggestion would be this: 1 pt per 10 punt return yards and 1 pt for a kick return of 40 yards and 2 pts for a return of 60 yards or more. Big returns are rewarded, getting blown out doesn't guarantee you 234,334,459 points for return yards and it creates a wider gap between the most desirable defenses and the least desirable defenses.

He was watching Chris Cooley get all the work in the Redskins' passing game. I would guess that Philly made a concerted effort to limit Moss's impact.

I leave 22.6 points on the bench with Roethlisberger, after scoring every previous week Jonathan Stewart phones it in and DeAngelo Williams has a monster day and scores three times, and the Cards put up 41 aginst Buffalo but Boldin is on the sideline hurt.

Not my week.

Yahoo subtracted a point somewhere from Fallen Angel's lineup overnight, so the score right now in the Skillets-Angels game is:

2nd helping skillets (2-2) -77.7 (Minnesota D/ST)
Fallen Angels (0-4) - 79.4

Stop kicking it to #25, Viqueens.

Interesting collateral effect, punt return TDs keep Brees off the field. He's sitting at 9.8 points after Bush's second scoring return.

Here are the final scores, technically unofficial, but doubtful that any scoring changes large enough to affect any outcomes will occur. I've updated everyone's records:

Wily Corn Trolls (4-1) - 91.0
SnakeBitten (3-2) - 65.5

Neanderthals (3-2) - 73.1
Demolition (3-2) - 77.8

Zohan's Posse (2-3) - 119.9
Tribbles (1-4) - 106.8

Fighting Friars (4-1) - 137.3
Trifecta Wookies (2-3) - 67.6

2nd helping skillets (3-2) - 99.7
Fallen Angels (0-5) - 79.4

I thought when Brees topped 300 yards that Neanderthals were on their way, but the combo of Reggie Bush scoring two TDs on punt returns and a bend-but-don't-break effort from the Vikings D won the day for Demolition.

Amen to that. My defense is scoring more than my QB's in many weeks!
