I'm sure I'm not the only person here who has read the Ultimates:

http://www.amazon.com/Ultimates-Vol-1-Mark-Millar/dp/0785110828/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222107513&sr=8-1

Now, I know that Chim hates the word "gritty" but the Ultimates tends to be a more gritty presentation of a supers world. This holds true for the Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Galactus, Ultimate Fantastic Four, etc.

What would be a good supers system to play an "Ultimates" style supers game?

In my personal opinion, I'd say M&M, as they'd fit perfectly into a "Paragons" type setting. For some reason I tend to associate Hero, V&V, and DC Heroes (MEGS) with more four color settings.

I would say any as long as the GM states that He's playing for keeps.
Meaning death is final and he's not above killing anybody.
Me and my group played V&V like that almost all the time(now that I think about it thats the only way we played lmol:roll:)

I think that Bishoplogan has got the right idea here. It can be done in any system, so long as the GM makes clear the rules on lethal attacks and such.

See, for me, I associate Champions more with the harder edges than M&M, which I see along with V&V, DCH and MSH :)

Oh, I didn't say it couldn't be done it's just easier to do in some systems than others.

I see the older versions of Champions as being more in line with standard four color campaigns. 5th edition has a darker tone to it, and would fit more into a modern or Iron Age. Standard M&M is definitely has more of a four color feel to it, with modern elements thrown into the mix. Paragons, Wild Cards, and Gestalt being the exceptions.

Okay, that I'll agree with :) I used to love the feel of the old 3rd edition Champions stuff :D
