This is a character from a custom campaign. Gulzee are like Raptorans but they are based on Black headed gulls, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-headed_Gull) much like Kehaar from Watership Down.

This is my first PBP paladin. My only previous paladin was more like Elan from Order of the Stick than any other paladin. I was determined to make Trillian a good paladin, though, and the GM made me come up with a paladin code for her. I will post that as a separate post in this thread.

This is probably some of my worst writing... I like the story but if I took the time to do it right it would be much better.

The main summary is this, though:
She was always a peacemaker
She saw a massacred human village
She rescued a wounded hobgoblin
When her paladin abilities started manifesting she joined the Paladin Order

Trillian grew up as a fairly typical Gulzee. Her mother was a well-known scrimshaw carver and her father was one of the few Gulzee who would travel outside of the village to trade goods with other towns.

She would often accompany her father on trading missions, along with her older brother and sister. She loved visiting the merfolk and the humans; she even enjoyed going to the hobgoblin camp although many of the hobgoblins made her feel a bit uneasy.

She always felt some kind of pull, though, but she could never put a pinfeather on it. One thing that was atypical about her was she seemed to have a knack for getting along with others. Whenever an argument would come up between her siblings or her friends she was almost always able to play the peacemaker and smooth over the ruffled feathers. When peace couldn't be made, she was more than willing to get into a tussle to defend her friends if it came to that.

On one such journey, Trillian saw something that changed her life forever. Travelling on the plain the Gulzee traders came across the remains of a battlefield. Dead humans and hobgoblins were scattered across a wide area; the battle must have been a few days old. There were none left living among the dead.

The group continued on to the human village where they expected to do some trade. When they arrived there, they found the village was burnt to the ground. More dead everywhere, human men, women, and children, and a few hobgoblins as well. The evil of the act grated on Trillian's conscience. She felt that the dead must be avenged somehow; that whoever had caused this had to be brought to justice.

The human and hobgoblin settlements had been there for several years. Relations between them were a little tense but had never come to the level of full-blown warfare. The two races even traded occasionally.

After some discussion, the Gulzee party decided to head straight back to their own village. They didn't want anything to do with a war between the humans and the hobgoblins. It was none of the Gulzee's business. Trillian felt that that decision wasn't quite right, but none would listen to her.

They didn't go very far when they noticed four human riders up ahead. They had something circled and they were poking at it with their spears and yelling. As the Gulzee got closer they saw that the creature in the middle of the riders was a hobgoblin adolescent. It was plain to see that the humans were going to kill the hobgoblin.

Heedless of her own safety, Trillian ran to protect the wounded hobgoblin. The humans started yelling at her and thrust their spears at her. She just hunched down with her wings folded over the hobgblin, shielding him with her body.

Dismayed at his daughter's recklessness, Trillian's father and the rest of the Gulzee told the humans to stop and leave unless they wanted a fight. The humans weren't too happy with this turn of events but they didn't have much choice. They were outnumbered by the Gulzee.

The wounded hobgoblin was in pretty bad shape. Trillian felt a curious sensation welling up inside of her and somehow she knew what to do. Her hands started glowing with blue healing energy and she placed them on the hobgoblin. The grimace of pain went out of his face as Trillian's cool healing touch eased his wounds.

The Gulzee took the Hobgoblin back to their village with them and Trillian helped nurse him back to health. She could sense no ill will in the strange humanoid and they became fast friends. Trillian learned that he was a messenger who was sent to stop the attack on the human settlement. He got there too late. There was some evidence that the fight between the two races was started on purpose by some third party, but the hobgoblin didn't have any information.

After a few weeks the hobgoblin left the Gulzee village to go back to his own kind.

Trillian's father took her aside. He had noticed the awakening of the strange powers within her. He recognized them as belonging to individuals who are especially devoted to the cause of life. Even though he would miss his daughter, he knew that the best path for her would be to travel to the Great Gulzee City and join with the Paladin Order Mer et Ventus et Sol Solis to train to use her powers wisely and effectively.

So Trillian packed her things and said goodbye to her family. She got in a ship and sailed to the Great Gulzee City and joined the Paladin Order. She excelled at her studies and finished near the top of her class. After three long years of training, Trillian returned to her home village before venturing forth in the world helping others and defeating evil.
