giants top asterisks, 17-14!

first half stats: 81 yards, 2nd fewest in superbowl history by the asterisks. 3 sacks allowed by the patriots offensive line.

and the giants were supposed to be blown out? :D

the giants have their official 3rd superbowl victory!

the team of destiny tonight: the new york giants!

One thing I wonder about the Giants' W -- will it cause teams to reassess the whole "resting up" philosophy at the end of the season when there's little on the line in terms of playoff positioning?

There's one thing that makes this win especially sweet for me.

If the Patriots had gone 19-0, I would have spent the remainder of my natural life listening to the media fellate them as the best, most perfect team ever (just like we constantly hear about the 1972 Dolphins now). The next thirty years, at least.

I would have had to quit watching football and reading about it in order to escape the yammering.

Instead, I get to hear about the Epic Fail for the next thirty years. Deeply, deeply satisfying.

I'm considering getting a vanity plate next year: 18N1LOL

We'll see if it seems like a good idea in a few months.

At least you don't live in New England. I was rooting for the Giants for the same reason.

No, but I'm a Colts fan.

Anytime in the last five years that I've mentioned that on the Internet, I've got some Bostonite crawling up my ass about his team's Ultimate Superiority.

Funny how that didn't even stop after last year's Super Bowl win...

No problem. I just got back from Mass. I watched the game at my Dad's house.

Congrats to the Giants, who played as strong a defensive game as I've seen. Who showed up ready not only to play, but to win.

They were clearly a better team last night.

Classy response, BB.

Simply true. It's why games aren't played on paper, but on the field, where sweat and blood matter.

I'm disappointed with how our offensive line played, but unlike a lot of the fans around these parts, I recognize that Strahan, Osa (I'm not going to try and spell his last name), and Tuck had a HUGE role to play in how bad the line looked.

Could we have played better? Obviously. Can we beat the Giants? Of course.

But this wasn't a fluke, it was one team who wanted it much more than the other.

BB: i have to say, what i've seen of brady and bruschi (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/05/sports/football/05araton.html?ref=football) post-game and their graciousness, esp in the wake of what must be bone-crushing disappointment, is inspiring.
